2000 points exceeded error
« on: June 26, 2024, 02:08:26 PM »
Hi,
I used HB PC with 598 now when I connect SD from Helix G4N I get model unknown. Also, I'm unable to upload tracks, as you can see below.  Any idea what is causing this?

Thanks

You might try exporting the tracks one at a time and try to open in HBPC to see which track might be causing the issue  ...

It is all of them. I figured out that 598 was limited to 2000 track points, however Helix G4N makes track with >2000 track pints all the time. All tracks are bigger, except extremely short recordings. So my problem is basically how to tell HBPC this SD is from Helix and therefor it can upload more than 2000 track points.
HBPC can't detect model of my Helix from SD. I tried to delete proifile.txt, and then it uploads tracks without an error.

Have you tried a different SD Card (32gb max) to export Nav data to   ... ??

Yes, no difference. I also tried to reinstall HBPC with no luck.
The solution must be in some interaction between profile.txt and HBPC. With profile.txt on SD, I get the error if I delete it first, no error and data are uploaded with no issue.
So I believe the question is why HBPC do not recognized model of my Helix correctly. Does HBPC have some database of SN or uses something else. Or is it checking on some HB server? Is that database outdated ? My unit is one of the newest on the market. Or somehow somebody forgot there exist some international units and therefor HBPC can't recognize them ?

PS: how is it possible I'm again the one, with a rare issue ? Am I incompatible with HB or what? :-)

No sir  ... I don’t think you’re incompatible because HBPC works with both my 1197 and my 1198  ...

Try a long format of the SD Card using your Windows SD Card format tool instead of the format tool in HBPC  ... (the format took in HBPC is a replica of the “Quick Format” in the Windows format tool)  ...

Tried, no effect. I also tried different SD, even tried Zero Lines SD. Still the same effect. With profile.txt on card, I always get that error. Without it, it works every time. Today I tried to install HBPC to another PC. One where 598 wasn't ever connected. It was the same with exception in properties there was 1198c if I remember correctly. No idea why. I never even seen that unit nor have it connected.

As I wrote before. I believe HBPC have some algorithm to check if track does not have more track points than connected unit (or unit from which is SD inserted) supports. It does so by reading profile.txt from SD card.  The last recognized unit by HBPC was 598 which supports only 2000 track points. When I upload data from Helix SD HBPC can't figure out from what unit that SD came from. Therefor, it writes model unknown. However, it read the profile.txt and decode Helixes SN, SW version but not unit model so number of track points controlling algorithm is active. (at lest it behave like that)
When I want to upload tracks to SD, unit model somewhere in HBPC is still 598 so no upload of more than 2000 track points.
Without profile.txt HBPC probably drops to some other mode and don't use any track points number control algorithm, because this time has no data about SD origin whatsoever. Not even partial ones.

That's my understanding of what is happening. However, no idea how to fix this. There is that workaround with deleting profile.txt every time, but that is quite silly solution. Also trying profile.txt from Helix which is recognized by HBPC, may help. There will be no 2000 track points limit, until I connect my 598 unit again.

edit: Rickie as I can see you have Solix. That unit should behave the same as my G4N Helix in HBPC It also makes >2000 track point recordings.  Did you try uploading long tracks on Solixes SD in HBPC?

This is another clue:
Software Update - Humminbird PC v. 4.6.1
Released 9/13/2019

Software Description
New Features:

Added support for new HELIX G2, HELIX G3, and HELIX G3N ICE models:   "so no Helix G4N most likely"

ICE HELIX 5 CHIRP G2
ICE HELIX 7 CHIRP GPS G3
ICE HELIX 7 CHIRP GPS G3N
HELIX 10 HW MSI GPS G2N
HELIX 12 HW MSI GPS G2N
General Fixes:

No general fixes at this time
Software Prerequisites
A PC-compatible computer running Windows 95 or higher
At least one USB port or serial port
Java version 6 update 26 at a minimum
*This product is not MAC compatible.

*Please note: ONIX and SOLIX are not recommended for use with this products.  It does not support the same icon, groups or notes.  That information will be removed from your waypoints and it cannot be retrieved.   "Solix also have >2000 track points and who knows what else is the same with new G4N Helix"

Most likely, HBPC is simply not fully compatible with G4N Helix.

Re: 2000 points exceeded error [UPDATE]
« Reply #7 on: July 17, 2024, 08:05:09 AM »
I have an update after a lot of mailing with HB support.
They are not able to duplicate that error, however they sent me profile.txt from other Helix. To my confusion it does not work either and HBPC shows again model Unknown. It seems that is how all Helix units are displayed in HBPC as Unknown.
However, I tried it on 3 other PC on two location where was never any HB HW or SW present. I got the same result, always the same error.
I can summarize my findings as follows:
1.   it does not matter if 598 was connected
2.   it does not matter from which Helix is profile.txt
3.   track file used, makes no difference.
4.   SD card is also out of suspicion (I tried 3 different ones, and it worked without profile.txt on each of them, but not with profile.txt. )
5.   My Helix has no influence on this (it does not work with any Helix g4n  profile.txt for me)
6.   Faulty PC/ installation of HBPC (tried on 3 different PC on two different locations with the same result)
7.   I tried it offline without internet – no difference.

Technically, we can say. HBPC refuse to upload any track with more than 2000 track points to any SD containing profile.txt from Helix G4N on any PC except one that uses HB support for testing. :-O

Please, could someone with Helix G4N try if it is possible for him to upload a track file with more than 2000 track points in HBPC.
If someone wants to try that and don't have Helix G4N, I can provide profile.txt for testing.
