Topic: Connector Type For Fuse Panel

Being an electrical novice, with hopefully simple questions, I am preparing to install a 898c SI to my Lund Explorer.  I plan to power direct to the fuse panel.  Question:  Do I need any special connector from the HB power cord (positive) to hook up to the fuse panel?  I do not see anywhere on the internet "What's In The Box".  I do notice the manual mentions "Crimp-On Type Electrical Connectors".  Does that mean included or I should have them on hand?  If so, there are many kinds out there.

The electrical connection should be mechanicaly sound and electricaly safe.    Crimp connections are good for joining two piececs of similiar diameter wire.  To connect to a panel a crimp connector to the wire  and the other end matching the panel requirements as to the physical type. This can be of the eye screw type or the "y" type or of the slip on type.  Places to obtain these are auto or marine stores or Radio Shack.  The can advise you of the correct type and help guide you in the procedure.  Crimp connectors require a special type of crimping pliers but you might find a friend or another who has one and can let you use it.  chuck

To add to my original post:  Being that my boat is 300 miles away at present and I can not look under the hood, I now have a Lowrance X135 attached to the fuse panel. Might I be able to just disconnect that and use the same fuse panel connection for my new HB?  Just a thought.

Probably so.  Just cut the two wires.  Red and Black.  don forget to disconnect the red from the panel first.  then crimp on the HB wires.  Red is positive and Black is Ground.   Make sure the fuse is 3 amps.  then reconnect the red wire to the panel.  chuck       Have I confused you yet?
