Topic: Too Much for 1 Battery?

I have an Onix, 360, Minnkota Talon on my Outboard battery.  I would troll slow with outboard and when I would find a spot, put Talon down, kill outboard, put down 360, occasionally raise outboard with hydraulic motor and repeated as I moved. It did not take but about 4 hrs of this and a 9.5v Low Voltage Alarm flashed on Onix. I read in a forum that my outboard consumes voltage under 1000 rpms?  After a few hrs, every time I trimmed outboard I would get an alarm with outboard not running.

I have 2 new Interstate batteries on a Perko switch and just switch to the alternate battery when needed. But it also leaves the weakest battery uncharging by the outboard.
 
Is it best to connect these 2 batteries together, or leave them separated?

How can I connect a switch to reverse switch both batteries. Whichever way I switch batteries, the electronics are on freshest battery, the outboard to be on and charging the opposite battery?

why not just hook both batteries in parallel and be done with it?  This is what I did and it works great.

That is the easiest option.

It is impossible to do the math on it. I had plenty of battery left to crank outboard. I think it was initial amp draw during cranking or trimming. It is a 02 motor. I will check amp draw on a few devices and see.

I installed what they call a change over switch in my boat. So when fishing the normal day, my units run off my cranking battery, but when it seems to be too low to start outboard, all I do is flip the switch to one of my trollingmotor batteries, which then starts the outboard. Remember to flip the switch back to crank battery, otherwise you charge the trollingmotor battery.

My trolling motor uses 36v, but even if they are connected in parallel to give 36v, if you just connect to one battery, you still only get 12v.
Make sure to use a volt meter with installation, otherwise you might have to replace all your inline fuses.

The rear of these switches have 3 connection ports on them......
1. pos
2. pos
3. neg or com

so bat 1 goes on 1 and 3 and bat 2 goes on 2 and 3.

Ian, I have 4 batteries. I have a 24v trolling motor on 2 batteries and I have outboard, Talon, 360 and electronics on 1 battery and also a spare battery connected via a Perko switch, with electronics on the common.(electronics work either way I switch it). But I am going to put electronics on the spare battery.
