Which Map Card?
« on: February 29, 2012, 09:28:24 PM »
I have a new 898c SI combo unit installed on my boat. I have had it out only once since getting it installed, pretty cool stuff. I want to use the unit in North Alabama for crappie fishing. I have two questions. I need to know what map card I should purchase and if that map card can be viewed on my pc.

The map card can not be used on a PC. There are three cards for Alabama, Two chart cards and a Fish'n chip card and a Lake Master card/disk. Roddy

You may want to check LakeMaster's list to make sure it has your lake.

LakeMaster still have away to go before their mapping programs are sorted out (in my opinion).  I recently purchased their Contour Elite only to be dissapointed with the softwares capability.

Also, Navionics has a premium S chip which covers a lot of states, again you may want to check the lake list.

The benefit for Navionics is that you can view the lakes on your computer via NavPlanner2, there is also Hotmaps Explorer.  This are you should spend some time investigating before deciding.  I have Fugawi Hotmaps Explorer a=with an HD map of my lake and I am very happy with it, it is an older system, not sure about the new systems.

For Sonar recording any SD card or SDHC card less than 32gb can be used  ...

Class 10 (with high read/write speed) will handle file management better when manipulating the recording data from SD card to PC  ...
