Topic: Uber Cheap Kayak install

So when my wife said I could get a fish finder..apparently she didn't mean this...so I'm banned from future purchases for a month,.   (Including the kayak I wanted to mount it on...anyone got a Manta Ray 14 for cheap)?

Basically I had $0 budget to build my mount, and given the way I launch my kayak, I need a way to get the transducer in and out of the water.

Looking back I definitely should have used thicker plywood.  Had I not been so excited to try it out I may have even measured the screws and noticed it would pop through.

Of course I didn't RTM on the unit either, and just went out and played on the Christiana river , so forgot to enable screen images..but I did find a car .

Gonna go back out later, and take a screen shot/waypoint and send to the DSP dive team... no way I am getting in that dirty water.

Interesting and creative.  I have been looking at mounting the 1197 on our kayak.  the unit is not that difficult but the transducer is the important piece.  you have given me some new thoughts.  Keep the pictures coming.\
Our kayaks are Necky Eskia and a Zoar Sport.  these are cockpit and not open but still have room to get a transducer.  I had thought about a thru the hull.  \

The piece of wood used to mount the transducer seems to cause a bit more drag than expected, and likes to turn the kayak if I'm not careful. Thinking of switching to something else, but its very nice to not worry about scratching the transducer.

I have mounted my 987 on my OK Trident 15 kayak.

I used a swinging arm to mount the transducer.





Have been using it now for almost 2 years - great fun.

Hi.

For the installation of the Humminbird you can also use "RAM Mounts". There are many different mounts to become an idea for your Problem. I have taken the matching mount of the Humminbird and for the GPS i have made a plate which i installed on the original Mount. So i have a very good an Portabel 798c si. One of the mounts i installed on a sucker.

In Germany this Mounts are unfortunately expensive.
