798 SI and 6.350 Update
« on: June 26, 2012, 12:52:08 PM »
Has anyone tried updating the 798 SI  ( non HD version ) yet? I’ve updated mine last time without any problems, but the new 6.350 update isn’t recognized by my unit.

I’ve formatted my SD Card, done a Factory Default reset and nothing helps. I wouldn’t think they would offer it from my profile on the Humminbird site if it wasn’t compatible.
Any idea’s , thanks.

BryanB, do you have a 798c Si or a 798ci SI model (as your profile shows)?
The 6.350 software was released for the 798c Si model but not for the 798ci Si model.

Yes I have the ci model. Strange how they showed an update on my profile that is not for my model. Thank you for clearing that up for me. Im running ver 5.840 now. Not sure if there is an update for my unit yet,  798 ci si.

Thanks for your responce

The 798ci Si models are running software version 6.300 right now.
I am e-mailing you a link through TransferBigFiles.com to download it from.

I am working on the 798 downloads. Give me a day or two to try and get the right loads in our download section.

Yep, I got your big file Greg.  Waiting on the file size transfer to be increased for me so I can get the larger files in the downloads.
I had it but I think the server took it down a step or two.

Robert is checking now..

Haven’t been able to check on this myself but I was told that the correct file got placed on the Humminbird web site for the 798ci Si units.

Guys is there anyway to downgrade software on these things ? Since going to the 6.300 it's became almost unusable for me. Using all the old settings no longer work for me, the unit is giving me tons of false signals now that I never got when running 5.840. It's like it way over sensitive now no matter how much I lower my sensitivity down, and also getting crazy SI readings where I never got them before :(

Hate to ask after ya helping to get this updated, but I'm kinda lost here.

And I see the humminbird site now shows 6.300 in there update section, it was 6.350. I guess that changed it over the last day or so.

If I can downgrade to 5.840 I'll be happy and just stick with it. Can someone post the 5.840 for the 798 ci si ?

Sorry about this guys, and thanks again for the past help.

UPDATE:

************************************************
Nevermind ,

I found an old copy of it on my computer and downgraded it back to 5.840.
I'll try it out later on the lake and see what happens

BB, we several levels of software on the forum under downloads.
Just in case the guys have to go back a level or two due to new code issues.

Check it out.  downloads, then select you unit model..

Chuck...I looked for the 5.840 he was looking for under the 798ci SI..

5.450 is the latest one listed for his unit...

Maybe I was using misinformation...I'm not sure...

Rickie, you are probably correct.  The 798 series of units are a bit confusing to say the least. HB only put the latest software on their site so it is almost impossible to get from them earlier codes.
I usually rely on other members to ship me the codes (older) so I can puty them on the downloads.
Now I also find that I cannot upload files larger than 10meg to the site. I have sent Robert a message to reset my files size so I can get the larger ones downloaded.

Tell me again why I volunteered to keep the downloads up to date... ;D

HB could be a bit more helpful to us with code since they do not provide backlevel.

I will keep trying....

clemson, not sure of the exact or all inclusive update considerations.  I dont think HB releases all of the code information..
I remember a while back some document that describe the general release but cant seem to lay my hands on it.
I think one of the guys here may have posted it..

My unit has the 5.840 version I think.. Without any idea of enhancements that come in the new version,, I think I'll keep my current version unless there are some earth shattering updates..

You can go to the FAQ’s on the Humminbird web site and search for the software version (example: 6.300) and it will show you the changes made.

It lists those changes that we are told about.  Some things are explained well and some are not (my opinion).  Some have screen snapshots to help explain them but most do not.

OK, It would be nice to have an area that describe the fixes..but I guess we would have to pay for that also..

It adds a casting ring, and also removes auto sensitivity for the DI and SI..  It also changes some items with the chart portion..

I did the update on my non HD today and it worked just as well as before..

Why they remove this feature? "removes auto sensitivity for the DI and SI"
