997 update
« on: May 13, 2012, 11:00:14 AM »
Has anyone heard if Humminbird is going to update the 997 with the 6.180 software.  I saw earlier post saying it was coming but have not seen anything as of late.

I really couldn't tell you.

But, be aware that the 997 is now considered a "Legacy" unit.
It's possible that Humminbird may not even offer any more updates for it.

Thanks.  I did read that humminbird was working on it and the were hoping to release it this month or last month.  I have not heard if they ran into problems or just gave up.

I just updated my unit. All readouts look good but because I did it in my garage I'm not sure. When I look at the sonar and SI screens it shows nothing even when a swing my foot under the transducer??  I won't know for sure if I did it right until I get it on the water,  has anyone else experienced this?

thorn, if the transducer is not in the water you will see nothing. Sonar needs the water for a medium to transmit and receive. it will not work in air.
Which is some of the problems at times if the transducer is not low enough in the water. Boat leveling or side to side rocking are contributing factors.
Your best bet is to get back on the water..

DiveEx.....
The update should not cause the screen to be blank.
What will happen is when the transducer is not in the water it will not operate. It doesnt like air.
So the sonar screen will be dark (blank)
You might see a small area of what appears to be noise. But it is not the screen as seen in water.

Right,, ok.

But with earlyer software than it showed SI recordings.

The latest updates shows some numbers and SI shows nothing but black screen.

No no, when I have finished installing the software update (6,300) in my office than the SI screen is blank. I have not yet tried it in the water. I´m only trying it without the transducer. It playes older recordings from my SD card.

Hello Thornskin, have tried to playback the recordings using some of the software viewers like Yellowfin or Humviewer ?

I have not tried the recordings yet, just quickly looked at the SI readout feature. Hope to spend more time checking things out soon.
