Topic: Can the GPS AS GR50 be used stand alone

Hi there I am new so forgive me if I am posting this question in the wrong place.   

I have an AS-GR50 and my 786ci head unit was borrowed one late night by someone who must have needed one very badly.  Night fishing I suppose...   

My question is very simply, can I cut the connecter off the AS-GR50, run 12v to it and run the NMEA signals to my old Raymarine RC620 Plotter, or my Laptop running nobletec?

Although Humminbird would not officially recommend doing so; in theory this could be done.  I have not had anyone who has asked about doing this before communicate back to me whether this sort of this was successful or not.

Good to hear.   Now I have cut the wire and there are only three wires.  A red, Green, White and a bare wire. 

If Red is +12v
Bare is Ground
Are white and Green the + & - Nmea ?

So a cable would look like :

Red to +12v
Bare to Ground
Green to pin 5 of the DB9
White to pin 2 of the DB9

Or have I missed something?

I think that your connections would be:

Red wire to +12 volts
Bare wire to Ground
Green wire (NMEA Output of the GPS Receiver) to pin 3 of the DB9 connector
White wire (NMEA Input to the GPS Receiver) to pin 2 of the DB9 connector

From what I found online:
Pin 2 is In (Receive Data)
Pin 3 is Out (Transmit Data)
Pin 5 is Ground

I have been successfully using a 16 channel GPS puck, a 50 channel, and one of the AS GRHA as GPS receivers for computer based mapping for years. I cut the NMEA-Comm end from the wye cable supplied with the pucks to fabricate Humminbird to serial DB9 adapters/connectors with a coaxial 12vdc power connection. See picture (if it makes it).
