Are you using a screen protector on your unit?
« on: March 27, 2014, 08:46:06 AM »
We haven't discussed this in awhile.  Are you using a screen protector on your unit?   Which brand?   Your results?

I won't use a screen protector on anything. The best is to learn what kind of glass is used on the display and if it's gorilla glass or similar it is a waste of money, time and doing more harm then good. Why insulate an electronic device from dissipating  heat when it's surface temperature can get near 200° ?
If I look to buy something used & if it has one on it, more then likely I won't buy it.

I have one on my 898. Got a cheapo $16 one off of ebay. It makes the screen harder to see, kind of a foggy look to it. All in all, I hate it and want to pull it off. Spend the money and get a good one.

I have NuShield screen protectors with no problems at all. I don't like to risk scratching the OEM screen.

I have a lexerd anti-glare screen protector on my 1197.
The screens on the 1197 were not sunlight readable, and
it does help viewing the screen on sunny days.
It's so thin, I doubt it would generate much heat.

I also have a team watters sun shield which makes a HUGE
difference when viewing the unit in the sun.

The 1198 and newer models have better sunlight viewable
screens.

You wouldn't happen to have a link and maybe a pic of yours if convenient would you?

Thanks,

Scott

Look at the picture on the link with the caption "Tammy checks equipment before heading out".  I don't know if they sell them anymore.  It attaches to
two tapped holes in the back of the unit.  The one I have is black.
I see that some people have made these out of aluminum and even cardboard.

Cool!

I think I can make a few off those with thin plastic & my wife makes custom decals I could cover them with & trick them out!
Got the mind gears grinding now!

Thanks!

Thanks to those who responded. Have a NuShield on the 998 and like ITG, it's the old unreadable in sunlight screen. Will go with them again more for the screen protection, than trying to improve the readability in the sun.

Hey Mike,
The lexerd protector was just a very thin piece of plyable plastic that
you just stick onto the screen with a little bit of water.
Is the Nushield hard or plyable, and how does it attach to the screen?

They still sell them.  Sent Dennis and Tammy a message yesterday and they responded to have anyone that wants one to try their e-mail or phone number on the web site.

ITG

Although its been four years since I installed it, the NuShield is similar your lexerd protector. The difference as I recall is that you clean your screen first
and then peel off the backing from the protector and apply it. I don't recall having to wet the screen first.
