Topic: Weather alerts problem

finally got the new bird on the water over the weekend, for the most part its working pretty good except for all these nagging weather alerts that keep popping up in the middle of the screen, dust storms, tsunami, freezing spray you name it they all pop up randomly and will build up until you clear (exit) all of em, is there anyway to turn off the alerts. yes I have both the weather sense and the sirrus puck on the unit.

The only thing you can do is set the alert radius to the
lowest setting.  I think it's 60 miles.
However, you'll have more time to react to bad weather if you
set it further out.

well I would buy that, but it was allready on the lowest settings, and sometimes without the weather aids connected, gotta be some stray signal or bit causing the problem

While looking at your boat icon on the XM weather map:
If you have a bunch of little red boxes in and around your area, then this
is the area that the alerts are coming out for.

Nope, didn't have that on the map, just the alerts kept popping up and to get rid of them you have to keep acknowledge them by pressing the exit key.  I'm sure it wasn't weather related.  Where does the alert messaging window get its input from to trigger? the xm weather antenna? remember I get these alerts without the antenna connected and even in the parking lot without the engine running of course.

That's really weird.
Without the XM antenna being connected, does your system still show that you
have XM weather?

I'm thinking maybe there is some kind of internal loop going on.
Maybe if your system thinks that XM is hooked up and it's not,
it may be generating the last set of warnings.

Not sure.
Maybe it's not a good idea to disconnect the XM module once your have
initially connected it and registered with XM.

Call HB support and they might know something.

My unit does the same thing can use it for all the warnings. Checked connections all hooked up even sent unit back everything checked out . Thought about canceling the XM service just to see if the warnings would stop . Have no idea what to do . It says Check antenna and will have full bars on signal strength wish there was a mode that would cut the weather function off .

I ended up removing my XM weather alert found it to be more of a nuisance. 

The heat alerts alone was a pain in the neck, I know it is hot and do not need these types of alerts. 

I really only wanted it for lightning and high wind warnings, but the system is not adjustable to control which alerts we want.

Maybe if they make adjustments to the system I will restart it, right now I would rather fish without the aggravation of the XM weather alerts.

How do you remove the alerts i cant find it in the menu . Can you just unplug the antenna?

I unplugged my XM receiver and everything disappeared from the system's menu.  I have also stored the receiver just in case I decide to try it again, it could be a great tool for safety.

Hopefully XM will make adjustments to their system so that we can decide on which alerts we want.  We have a lot of lightning and tornadoes in Oklahoma, lightning and high wind warnings are what I need.  I know when it is hot, cold and raining, these are not life threatening on the water.  When uncomfortable I can get off of the water.  I don't want to be dodging lightning or fighting high winds to get to a safe place.

I unplugged my antenna as well and the alerts went away, so I suppose I gotta send that unit back,  Yea I agree with more controls over those alerts for the future.

I am not sure of more control as it may be more interface (talk) between service offering companies. It seems none of these guys talk to each other about what they want to do.,
A more coordinated conversation might result in things working much better.
Instead of trying to figure out each others secrets..
