Hello, and thanks for the forum. Great resource and interesting reading. I've recently purchased a used 898c. I was assured it was all working perfectly (we'll see) and I have just installed it on my boat (Whittley 580 Voyager). My problem at the moment is I have very little time before a trip north to Darwin (read- a long way from Adelaide!). I only have one chance- this coming weekend- to see if everything is working okay. All seems good (GPS is showing location fine) but when I turn it on the message "Transducer Not Connected" comes up. The transducer is, however, "clicking" away and there is a fuzzy colour image in normal sonar, which I used to get on my old unit when out of the water. Side imaging and down imaging are completely black, as I'd expect when out of the water.
My question is- should that message appear when out of the water- even if the transducer is connected? If not, why would it be showing some signs of being connected?
As mentioned, I'll be taking it out this weekend (three days away) but will have very little chance of doing anything if it is not working (I'm leaving for the trip five days later- working until then).
I am aware of the sometimes "iffy" electrical connections, I plan to get some electrical connector grease to improve things.
