New 570DI Simulate Issue
« on: December 02, 2011, 11:26:16 PM »
Hello,
I just installed a new 570 DI, powered it up and selected the Simulate option from the start-up menu.  It will not go into Simulate mode - instead goes right into the standard OP mode.  This occurs with and without the transducer plugged in.
I cannot get it into Simulate mode.
Anyone with similar problem , fixes, suggestions............?
Thanks!

If anyone has the same model - 570DI - and has had the same or other problems with it please let me know if and how you resolved it.

Many thanks!

Give HB customer support  1-800-633-1468  a call and have them walk you thru it so they can see 1st hand your problem. Then they might be able to help you.
Or let you know what their data base has in it.

I'm going to call them tomorrow (Monday).  Hopefully they can resolve it over the phone for me.
But I have a feeling it's a software issue with the unit programming.

I was just hoping another member who has the same model might have some info on it.
We'll see what HB has to say ..........

I had the unit on the water yesterday and it performed well.  So the only problem is with the Simulator function.

I was contacted by a HB Customer Service Rep Deborah, who advised me that several of these units were erroneously shipped without the Simulator program installed.  The error was discovered after they were already out the door. Goes to show "Doo-Doo" happens  ::)
HB will supply me with a FedEx return shipping label for free shipping of the unit back to them for repair.  Expected turn around time is 3-4 working days.
Kudos to Deborah for contacting me and taking the initiative to resolve my problem  :)

I wondered if that was the problem or not.  ???

Way to go Deborah!  :)

Well, I returned the 570DI to HB.  They updated the software to ver. 5.920 (previous version was 5.640).
They shipped it back to me however put the wrong Zip Code on it so it was being shipped to another city.  I discovered this through the tracking feature of FedEx.  Deborah from HB came to the rescue again and was able to contact FedEx and have it re-routed to my correct Zip/City.
Upon receiving it I plugged it in and it does load into the "Simulate" mode, flashing "Simulator" at the top every few seconds.  However - it will not display any sumulated bottom/structure/fish etc.  The screen is totally blank except for displaying the depth lines/numbers on the right side.  The menus are active and I tried every possible setting I could but still no simulated images would appear.
I emailed Deborah again describing the problem, still waiting for her reply - probably delayed because of the holidays which is understandable.
I'm getting disappointed with my experience.  It's dufficult to believe the techs at HB would do the software upgrade and then not verify that it was actually functioning properly.  I won't be able to take it on the water for a few weeks to see if it actually does still work in regular sonar /DI modes.  Hopefully it does still work okay.  I'll keep my fingres crossed!

I would bet that all they did was load the latest software (which is always done) and than did not let the unit run in Simulator long enough to see if it worked or not.  Deborah will probably “nicely suggest” that they do a better job this time… sorry about that FishSeeker.

When you sent the last message to Deborah; do you know if it was sent to her specific e-mail address or just back to the CRC account?  I’ll see if I can get Deborah to contact you directly.

FishSeeker,
I spoke with Deborah about your unit.  Is the problem only with the 455kHz 2D sonar data not showing up in the Simulator?  If this is the case than there is nothing wrong with your unit.  We do not have any data for the 455kHz 2D sonar programmed into the unit.  This is also true of all of the DI units that we make.  Not sure why we don’t other than it was probably to save memory space for something else.  We have done the same with the QuadraBeam simulator data and probably a few others over the years.

Greg - thanks for the reply and info.  Deborah did email with screen captures of what the 570DI is supposed to look like in Simulator mode.  This was very helpful and confirmed for me that my unit is not functioning the way it should.  My unit does not display any simulated images in any of the sonar settings including the 200 Khz beam setting, which her screen shots indicate it should be doing.

I took some pics of my unit screen display showing the various screen views and menu settings and emailed them to Deborah. We'll see what happens ......

Thanks for your help!

FishSeeker,
Deborah contacted me about your e-mail this morning.  She agrees that someone didn’t get something right when your unit was here and stated that she keyed an order for a new 570DI unit.  I volunteered to check that the simulator in the unit you will be shipped is in fact working.  Now I’m just waiting for the phone call from our Shipping department to go back and check it….
Hm, hm, hm…
Well I guess that I should probably try and do some work around here until I get that call!

Greg,
I received an email from Deborah giving me the good news.
I really appreciate that you are going to personally checkout the new unit before it's shipped.
Although this has been a disappointing experience, I understand that sometimes things just happen.
The best thing has been the Customer Service provided by Deborah and yourself which has made it so much easier to deal with.
Again, many thanks and I'll keep you posted .........

Ken

Ken,
I just looked at a brand new 570DI unit back in the Shipping department.  The simulator worked!  This is the unit that should be getting shipped out to you.

Greg - I received the new head unit today.  The Simulator program worked fine.
I hope to get it on the water next week and try it out under real world conditions.
I don't anticipate any problems, got my fingers crossed ;-)

Many thanks again to you and Deborah for hanging in there with me to resolve my problem.
Couldn't ask for better Customer Service!
Keep up the good work!

I finally was able to get out on the water today and ran the new 570DI through it's paces - what a kick!
All the functions worked great - located some huge bait "clouds" and smaller "balls" in the 20' - 25' depth range.
Did some drop shotting under the bait and had a few bites but only caught one dink bass - due to my inexperience at it.

So the HB 570DI worked great and all is right with the world again!

Thanks again to Deborah and Greg at HB!
