just purchased an 1197si who do you use si and down scan at the same time

Side image gives a "birds eye" type of view allowing you to see what's out left/right horizontally from your position.  Down image provides more of a 'profile' view and vertical information similar to a traditional 2D view.

We usually set two of the three hot keys to be 1)DI and 2)SI.  That way we can swith very fast...
