AIS + Weathersence
« on: August 12, 2010, 06:32:14 AM »
I would like to connect a new AIS and a weatherscence to my 1179c si
has anyone been able to do this? Does it all go through the accessory bus?

Not sure about the Weathersense, but since it is a Humminbird accessory it should be a plug and play.  AIS is doable by connecting it through the NMEA in/out on the accessory bus.  See this link for info.

I wish connecting DSC radio position reports were this easy.

Thanks for the link, very useful.
I just want to confirm if the NMEA OUT + and the NMEA - cables are both connected to the Green AS-HHGPS NMEA in wire?

Looking at the kit manual it shows the Weathersence connected to the pig tail cable with the GPS, do you know what the color coding in the weatherscence cable is?

Many thx

This link may help.   http://www.shipmodul.com/en/connections.html

Unfortunately the 1197c SI NMEA in/out on the accessory bus is single ended.  This can cause some problems making a 2 way connection to the 1197.  Many times it takes some experimenting with different configurations to get it to work.  I ended up have to connect 2 listeners to the GPS receiver pigtail to get close to what I was trying to do.  I never could get the NMEA IN on the accessory bus to accept a signal from the VHF/DSC radio.

The Weathersense unit should plug into the Y connector that ships with the unit.  Probably to COM plug.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

This is the pin layout on the NMEA cable.
