How deep is Down Imaging effective????
« on: July 14, 2010, 04:29:38 PM »
Haven't really played with DI yet, but will it work in 200-350' of water?
Thanks....

As far as I'm aware it will only work as deep as you get with Si and that seems to be pot luck over 150'. Saying that, I've had recognisable features and wrecks as deep as 210' in fresh water with both Si and Down Imaging, but the quality was very poor due to algae in the water and extreme range.

You might want to go to 800mhz for the deep depths.

Chuck,

The 800khz will not go quite as deep as the 455khz.

Robert you are right.  I must have typing dyslexia. I was thinking 455 but typed 800.  Or maybe old age is setting in.
thanks for the correction.
I probably should read my posts. 8)... :P

I have picked up shipwrecks with SI and DI at 245ft.  The images are not the greatest but can still determine where a wreck is.

Wow!
Did you get any screen snapshots of this?  If so, please post them!

Here is the wreck on SI and you can even see it faintly on DI.

This capture shows the capability of entry level sonar units.

I hope to get back and scan again when the water clear up for a better image.
