New 998
« on: May 20, 2010, 01:29:07 PM »
Finished up installing my new 998 last night. Taking her out to play for the first time saturday. I was wondering if there are any settings that others have found that need to be adjusted straight out of the box?

My setup is a 03' ProCraft Pro 185 with a 787c2 on the trolling motor/bow with the 998 on the transom/console and the two are connected via an interlink.

Toss a couple of searches in the search box at the top of the menu.  There are postings for initial setups and will vsry depending on your application.  Lots of information in the search returns.

My setup is a 03' ProCraft Pro 185 with a 787c2 on the trolling motor/bow with the 998 on the transom/console and the two are connected via an interlink.

DI sensitivity 18 or 20
2d sensitivity to whichever setting gives my 2d screen good echos with some (but not a lot) of clutter...this will change according to the your water conditions...clarity, depth, TVG on/off, etc.

TVG off in less than 10' water
Tvg on in more than 10' water
SI beam 455kHz for a brighter screen with less detail
SI beam 800kHz for darker screen with more detail
Contrast 12
Sensitivity up or down to get the screen brightness you like..(raising sensitivity brightens screen, lowering sensitivity darkens screen...this will change with water depth)

I keep my "SI Enhance" window open on my screen at all times so that I can adjust the sensitivity up or down to brighten/darken the screen as my water depth changes while fishing
