Hello all, I am sure glad I found this site. I am building a few ROV's (Shallow and Deep) I thought it might be interesting to add Sonar scanning to my ROV. SO I started searching and ended up here. I thought I would have to purchase an expensive ethernet equipped unit but after looking around the site I see most folks just lengthen the transducer cable using Cat5 or Cat6 cable.
After looking around I figured I could also build a tow fish to help find locations that I want to search with my ROV.
I do not have a Sonar unit, I am starting to look at the different functions etc. But I do want to capture NEMA 0183 or 2000 data to get depth GPS etc.
I have just started reading the site and have a few questions.
When choosing between SI or DI is there a better option? I see the dual units are a bit more expensive. Also all ROV's that go beyond 100M (328 feet) must use a booster for the ethernet cable, Not sure but, but I read that most folks run into a length issue. This booster may help in that department. Thanks all
Looking forward to chatting and learning what I can
