Shoot Through Mounting Location / Ranger 620VS
« on: September 16, 2018, 08:45:37 AM »
Ok, I have been using the search function for the last 3 hours and cannot find the information I am looking for (and I have tried to use the embedded BBC  links that folks have posted, but most of those are dead links).  I have a 2002 Ranger 620VS.  I have a Helix 9 that I want to Y cable its transducer with a shoot through 2D puck style transducer.

I am looking for a picture/testimonial of where a successful mounting location is for the shoot through transducer.  I understand the whole "test installation" philosophy.  However, for those folks that own these boats there is not an easy access to the bilge area.  It is a job and a half to move pumps, hoses, oil tank, etc. (unless you have Go-Go Gadget arms).

I would like to mount it on the bow facing side of the livewell pumps, but I am not sure if this will be in the water enough while on plane to get depth readings while at speed.

I would consider transom mounting the 2D transducer, but would need to know a good location for that and any Pros/Cons.

Any practical experience and application would be appreciated (pictures are also very helpful).

Yep, I have read through that thread several times.  Unfortunately, it doesn't address my specific hull type.  Having to remove the oil tank every time to test fit is not ideal.  I am hoping someone has completed this install and can give the limiting factors involved.
