Topic: Do you trailer with units attached?

I have a 958 on ram mount at bow and a 998 mounted on gimbrel in dash.  I remove every time but it is a real pain. Just wanted to see what everyone else does.

 My rig is in the garage locked up if it's not on the water. The last two years I've left them on the ram mounts on the boat and have never taken them off until the fall. But it's a good idea to watch the road and drive with common sense.  I very rarely drive on dirt roads with washboards and when I do it's sloow. Of course here in MN where I live there,s like nine lakes within ten miles,so I don't drive very far. But still if you store your boat indoors behind a garage door I'd leave em on. I think the pins at the connections will fail a lot sooner if you take them off every time. I never go down the road with the covers on the units and I always park the boat in the garage with the covers on, it helps keep the dust build up off the screens.

It was tough for me to convince myself, (and the boss) to spend that much money on a toy, so I take extra good care of mine. If I'm not fishing, it's in a padded case, in the house or locked up in the truck.

I don't, I remove mine before hitting the road, there's just to much money back there to let it bounce around and get damaged ...... lol

I have 2 units (1197 & 1198) and keep them in the cab of my truck, installing and removing them at the lake.  This may be overkill, but at the cost of these units you cannot be too careful.   I have been doing this since my first purchase (1197) in Nov. 2009.

I never trailer my boat with the unit attached...I always remove it once it's out of the water.  When I get home, it comes in the house. Too much money to let it get bounced around on the trailer or some kind of road debris hitting the unit.  It only takes a couple of minutes, but it's worth it.

Of course, like most fishermen, I don't go fishing
nearly as much as I would like to.
But, I keep my unit mounted on the boat at all
times.  It does stay in a locked garage, so theft
is not a primary concern.

I don't like the flimsy connections on these units.
My personal feeling is that if you unhook and hook
the unit up enough times, something is going to
eventually wear out or break.
There's so many things that can go wrong anyway.
Loose/worn out connections are one thing I don't
want to have to worry about.  Anytime you are
carrying a unit around, it can fall.  With my luck,
I would eventually drop the unit.

Also, the older I get, the less I want to do
in order to go fishing.  Any added items on the
todo/check list, makes it so much easier just
to stay home.
