transducer trouble?
« on: July 30, 2013, 02:33:33 PM »
The depths from my 798 are reading far deeper than the actual depth. Example: 500ft. when I know it's only 20ft. I checked the transducer and it's mounted solid, not loose. I am getting the correct temp and speed. Is there anything else I can check or do or do you think maybe I have  to change transducers. Appreciate any help!

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums randy voth.

I would try testing your 798 unit on someone else’s boat that has either a Humminbird Si model unit or one of our standard sonar units (not a DI model unit) and see if the unit reads the correct water depth.  If it does than I would also test their unit on your boat.  Take the cables out of the mount and plug them in by hand if you have to, to test them.

Is this while you are running on plane or when you are going slow. Post a picture of how and where your transducer is mounted.
