Single or dual channel transmission unit
« on: November 29, 2024, 08:23:43 AM »
Hi just hopefully simple question I was unable to google out.
Is 598 single or dual channel transmission unit? In other worlds is it alternating between 83kHz and 200kHz, or it is fearing simulating both frequencies. And if I select just 83kHz, will be refresh rate impacted, or it will be the same as if I use 83+200kHz. Also, if I select just 83kHz will transducer still emitting 200kHz just don't show it on screen.
Thanks.

This is the info Humminbird provided for me way back in the x97 and x98 days  ...

Note : Humminbird introduced “Jigging Mode” in 2015 as a software upgrade that can only be explained in a separate thread (if needed)  ...

The elements are pinged in sequence  ...

Jigging mode On = 200 kHz, Left SI Beam, Right SI Beam, 83 kHz, repeat

Jigging mode off = 200 kHz, Left SI Beam, Right SI Beam, 83 kHz, Left SI Beam, Right SI Beam, repeat.
——-

If we set the "Beam Frequency" under the Sonar tab to 200kHz (shutting off the 83kHz transmit) ... the ping sequence is now  ... :

Jigging mode On = 200kHz, left SI beam, right SI beam, repeat

Jigging mode Off = 200kHz, left SI beam, right SI beam, repeat

Note … if we have the sonar set to 200 khz only there are some caveats:

In deeper that 350 FT of water 83 kHz pings all the time (in the sequence)  ...

On a network 83 kHz pings all the time (in the sequence)  ...

In Split Sonar View 83 kHz pings all the time (in the sequence)
  ...
——-

If we have Sonar set to 83kHz - the 200kHz is still in the ping sequence because digital depth comes from the 200kHz return  ... we just don’t have a view to see it with this 83kHz only selection  ...

Note to anyone following  ... :

The info provided above can only be applied to those older core unit series back in the early days of x97 and x98 series units  ...

Humminbird will not disclose these proprietary notes for any of their newer series units (after 2015)  ...

Believe me …. I have asked  ...

Thanks, just one thing, my 598 does not have jigging mode option. They never allow that function in 5xx units as long as I know. I'm just trying to minimalize interference between my 3 units. 2x helix 1x 598. I run 598 on a trolling motor in front just for depth and vertical fishing. Helix 9 MSI g4N is primary SI unit and Helix7 CHIRP G3N is for mapping mainly. Those two helixes are connected in the network. However, I have two transducers on transom anyway. I use Helix 7 CHIRP G3N as high-speed transducer.
So I came up with this.
On main motor (high-speed)  598 (is off), H7- (running 200kHz, 2D), H9- (transducer OFF, running MAP)
Main motor (scanning low speed) 598 - (OFF),    H7- (200kHz MAP),  H9-(SI, DI, 2D from H7)
trolling motor (fishing)   598-(455kHz+200kHz+83kHz), H7- (transducer OFF, MAP), H9-(SI,DI, running just MEGA)

But it is quite teddies to change configuration. Lot of things to switch around permanently.
