Helix Series Units / Helix 7 won't turn on (possible solution)
« Last post by Kenai on Yesterday at 02:55:44 PM »
I have Helix 7 G3N without a cover. The cover was not included in box and I couldn't buy one locally. After 6 months of winter, I discovered my 14 month old Helix would not power on, no matter how many times I tried. I checked all the cords,  battery — everything seemed fine. 13V measured on connector pins. Tried to switch cords with my Helix 9 to no efekt.
It worked perfectly on last trip 6 months ago.
Yesterday I took it from the shelf in shop and placed it face up on my office desk in house to access the serial number and write a warranty claim and let it there for 24 hours.
However, after 24 hours I try to start it one last time before sending it back and it started instantly. I believe the cause was that I left it face down on soft foam for six months without a cover. That likely kept the power switch pressed and caused it to get stuck. The unit refused to start while the switch was stuck in pressed position. So don’t store your unit face down, even on a soft surface without rubber cover.

Helix Series Units / Heading sensor NMEA 2000
« Last post by Kenai on Yesterday at 02:33:48 PM »
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
NMEA 2000 is a standard that should work across brands.
So I can use any NMEA 2000 sensor with my Helix 9 G4N. If so, could I use the Garmin SteadyCast Heading Sensor?
I simply can't find the NMEA 2000 GPS Heading Sensor (AS GPS HS N2K, item #730029-1) or the AS GPS HS External GPS Receiver with Heading Sensor (item #408400-1) in any store in the EU.
Thanks

Good afternoon. I am seeking knowledge from the Minn Kota experts. I just bought a year old 12' Talon and want to install it on the port side of my Bobs Machine Shop fixed jack plate (on my 2000 202ZX Skeeter). I have looked thru and printed out install instructions for said plate. The only thing that makes me hesitant exactly, is which jack plate bracket is it I should buy? I think the 1810340 is the right one. One other question would be, my set up is 26 yrs old and has the recessed area on the plate where install of elbow bracket goes. Does anyone know if I'll need that shim or is a wait see (when it's install time) thing? If y'all have any tips for me, I appreciate it. Thanks for your time reading and your help. Great site.

DIY - Side Scan Sonar and towfish / Re: towed or not

Hi, I have used a towfish and hull mounted transducers alot. It's possible to use a towfish close the surface, but it's so much simpler with hull mounted gear. I use hull mounted in waters much deeper than 4,5 m, down to about 20m with good results (in calm weather conditions).

DIY - Side Scan Sonar and towfish / towed or not

hi everybody

i implement side imaging in rivers for archeological survey purposes.
the max depth is 4,5 m
the side range reach 2 x 50 m
today the transducer is attached to the boat under 25 cm of water
i wonder if it should be smart to use a towfish and at what depth
a problem should be when sailing near the bank line where it is too shallow

DIY - Side Scan Sonar and towfish / AGC for side imaging

hi everybody

rickie suggested me to post this here
does somebody know if it is possible to apply a variable gain in the side imaging to lighten the furthest returns ? (for helix of course)
i precise that increasing sensitivity should not be the solution because i think that it "lighten" all the sonogram
