Curious....
« on: August 11, 2011, 08:35:32 AM »
Im curious why lately there have been more and more posts about "jumping ship" or "gonna go with brand x-y-z" unless HB does something "now"...EVERY brand has some sort of issues, some small, some big, and a lot due to the fault of the "user"...I mean, Ive had a few issues but nothing major...All the grumblings in the world are not going to fix any issue right now!! This forum is aweome and Robert does a great job providing this forum for us users to share ideas and get some help..Greg follows right inline and helps with any questions or concerns...Where else can you have an outlet for such information? ...I hope some of the new members (will not call anyone out) didnt just join this forum to flame or spout negative...I am a member of a few other forums and I have to say, this forum has a lot less drama then the others....I hope it stays that way...

Just my two cents which is probably worth less then one but I was curious....

Goodpost Edward......
People these days are very quick to complain.
There are issues in manufacturing in all makes of "things" be it sonar or washing machines.
A lot of complain stems from the failure to read a manual or instruction.
With technical devices there is a lot of lack of knowledge on the users part.
So much is electronic today that a lot of people are not up to speed.
Which is why these forums like this one are important.
Those who know should share with those who dont. (willingly)
Sometimes frustration will lead to posting with feelings and it does not always come across that the user really needs help.
Then there are those who just complain and are beyond help.
So thanks to those who support and help in this forum.  It certainly makes the forum above most others...

It's easy to understand why someone would get frustrated with a new,
rather expensive piece of electronics when it doesn't work as they
thought it would.
Some people just don't have the patience to investigate what is
causing the problem.   They don't want to call customer support, but
would rather b@tch about it and bad mouth the product.
Sometimes the product is indeed faulty, so they may have a
valid gripe, but they should understand that these things happen
from time to time.

What gets me is that some people think that Humminbird is against
them/out to get them/ or is trying to pull something on them.

Everyone should understand that Humminbird WANTS YOU TO BE HAPPY WITH YOUR PRODUCT.
More happy customers means repeat sales and bigger profits.
If a person works with customer service in a calm and friendly manner,
it will do much to get their problem resolved.

Some of the learning process was  diminished when the manuals went to CD. This does make it slightly harder to Read The Manual.
So it is easier to complain..
In a business sense it is cheaper to use a cd, cheaper to update a cd so I can see why this was done.
However, when a user (paticularly a new user)  has question or issues it is easier to call a number or to post on the forum..
Thanks to the nature of this forum we can handle most questions or concerns and with the amount of data base information have solution and answers.
These units are made to operate out of the box but there are features that require some education or experience. Even advanced use only comes with experience.
Keeping the proper attitude will generally get better results than a *&^**%^$^& (bad words)type of post..
When (we) respond to posts it should be without emotion of the originator.
All in all this forum is great and does help..

I agree with Ed & other previous posts regarding this. Many of the people who complain have no appreciation for what a bargain these sonar products really are compared to more expensive equipment for professional hydrographers.

It is great that Humminbird, Lowrance and others have been able to lower the cost of these types of sonars so the average guy can afford them. Sidescan sonars for "professionals" costs 10's of thousands of dollars, if not more, and is used by hydrographic surveyors who are trained in operating the equipment. (Hence, it is taken for granted that the operator knows how to use the equipment and know the limitations etc.)

Creating sonars for the "average consumer" however, is a challenging task in a different way, since everything has to be so much more user friendly, or people will complain (as we see in this forum). I am sure the sonar manufacturers "feature request" lists are very long, but to keep the cost of the sonars low, they must carefully watch their budget. I understand their hesitation to say "yes" to all new features, ...or we would have to pay much more for our fishfinders!

Ed

I have had the same concern as Edwardpic about this, and posted a similar concern on another forum.  Almost seems like some of the post are more intended to sabatoge HB than anything else.

There definitely is a learning curve to get good at using, updating, managing waypoints, etc with this technology, and initial problems with a unit could make that very frustrating, but it seems more than that.  I think the HB si units are more user friendly and easier to learn than the competition, however.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

There are many more members now and seems some just like to join to complain...We all help each other, although a lot of areas I cannot be of help because I do not use all the functions available to me...I help when I can and enjoy it...I would never want this forum to go the way THT (the hull truth) went, too many responses to questions just to be a smart a##.....A calm approach to getting help from both this forum and HB always seems to work...I myself have had problems complained on here only to have pie on my face when it was my doing not HB....Ive learned my lesson

I would also like to see more members help and donate to this site....I know the economy is rough and some can't, but, if you can please click the donate button and help....Robert puts a lot of time and energy into this forum and we should do our part....Once again just my two cents....
