So, took the boat out for the first outing since installing the fish finder. My transducer throws a pretty bog rooster tail at WOT. Is this normal/expected? Anything I should do about it?

I'm new to this as well, but I have read numerous posts about a plug that is suppose to eliminate that. There are also post from people that have used other methods to solve that problem. I think that Hummingbird has the plug. There is a wealth of information on this site and quite a few guys that really know their stuff.

Thanks for that. I found the plug and installed it. We'll see how it works.

Can you explain what kind of plug you're referring to? Typically, a rooster tail is the result of a transducer being too low in the water when the boat is on plane. Or that's the way I've always understood it anyway.

It goes between the arms on the mount. From your earlier pictures, it looks like yours is installed.

This is what the pug looks like. I installed it on my transducer (luckily I didn't throw it out thinking it was just a spare part). Taking the boat out tomorrow and will see how it works.

Problem solved. The plug completely eliminated the rooster tail.

How does this plug keep you from spraying a rooster tail when your transducer is mounted below the bottom of the boat? whre is the best place to mount the transducer on a alum. boat?
-
where did you get the plug? directly from HB?
-
Edward: The plug stops the water from passing between the xducer wire and the mount. It plugs the space. Roddy

Edward; If the plug was not part of the kit call Humminbird to order the part. it just snaps in. :) Roddy

LOL! Hey man I made the SAME mistake! I forgot to install the plug as well. Full speed in my boat and it was shooting water probably a good 15ft in the air. Its always the little things.
