first time out last evening
« on: June 10, 2014, 08:58:49 AM »
Spring is finally upon us here in Northern Manitoba.  I took my two daughters and went for some walleyes last night.  The new 999 unit performed tremendously.  It tracks bottom at full speed (35 mph) perfectly.  The side image and down images were very clear when I was moving at close to the scroll speed (3 or 4).  I'm sure it will take a bit of time to get really good at getting the clearest pictures possible.  So far VERY impressed, coming from an Eagle FishElite 640c.

Only one minor issue - the tracks on the chart window seem to be off-scale from the map (zero-lines map from AutoChart) at distances from the boat icon on the screen.  I noticed this when traveling back from the fishing spot and my track was going over an island, but as I got closer the track drifted over to the proper position (the channel between the two islands).  Maybe this will be fixed with a software update...?... but it's not really a biggie right now.

Overall, the sonar is very impressive.  I'm seeing fish, structure, depth transitions - all the things I bought the unit for.

Well I hope you enjoy your springtime weather, it’s going to be 94 degrees here today with humidity levels in the mid 70% range… Summer has come to L.A. (Lower Alabama)!

The unit should be dropping the trackplot marks in the correct position coordinates but the map you are using may be off,  This is why there is a Map Offset menu.
Are you in the process of making sonar recordings or tracks to be used to make a ZeroLine map using AutoChart?

I haven't made any track recordings yet.  I basically just went out to make sure I had the transducer in a good spot for high speed readings and side imaging clarity.  I'll start doing recordings next time out, maybe later in the week.  I'll check the map offset to see if there's anything to gain there.

As stated earlier, the apparent offset on the map seems to be at a distance.  To clarify, in the order of a quarter to half a mile or so away.  When I come close to a location the map matches reality.  To me that seems to be a scaling issue with the map image.  Next time out I'll try to take a screen shot or two.  It may only have existed at a certain zoom setting?  I could try zooming in and out when I'm on the go to see of it rights itself.
