Topic: 757c GPS out (external GPS puck)

I've had my 757c since 2008 and it has worked great.  Hit the lake two weeks ago and the GPS isn't working.  I dismounted it, made sure all the connections were clean, made sure everything was tight, but it's still not working.  Nothing has really changed.  When I run the test it says not connected.  Trying to figure out if it the unit or the GPS puck. 

Do the GPS pucks fail?  There really isn't a lot to them so I'm not sure what could have changed. 

Any advice other than sending it in?

I was helping with this issue on Saturday.  I had another thought...  Can his GPS puck be plugged into a unit (787c2i) with an internal GPS to test his puck?   Is there a way to switch between internal and external on the 787's?  We could in theory rule out or confirm a bad puck.  Didn't see anything in the manual...

Your GPS module is 5 years old.
I have seen posts where external GPS pucks
do fail from time to time.

Can you test your GPS puck on someone else's unit.
The boat doesn't have to be in the water.

Being your unit is out of warranty, you really
can't do much of anything without spending
some money.

In 5 years, there have been a few new GPS pucks that
have come out.  You may want to upgrade your puck.

I'd call customer service first, to see what they suggest.

An external GPS Receiver can be tested on any other unit that is capable of using the same external GPS Receiver.  This means not just the electrical connection but also the software needed to use the GPS Receiver.  I can only guess that the 757 c unit has an older GPS Receiver that will work on a 787c2i unit.  500 series units with internal GPS Receivers cannot use an external GPS Receiver but a 700 series unit with an internal GPS Receiver can.

There is a menu to manually select which GPS Receiver the unit will use but by default they will use an externally connected GPS Receiver before they will use an internal GPS Receiver.  For testing purposes though I would manually select the external GPS Receiver just to make sure that is what is being used.  If the GPS Receiver is bad, the 787c2i unit may not even recognize it as connected and you will not see the GPS Receiver Override menu (found under the Nav menu tab) that allows you to select this.
