Can someone tell me if you can change from version 6.8 to 6.4. I just got the 859ci HD and was wondering. My 898c HD SI has V/ 6.4 and much better screen display. Any info would be appreciated. thx

If your 859ci HD came with 6.8 originally installed, I believe the recommendation is to not install a lower level software.

Yea didnt want to do anything until I heard from some on here that knew for sure. Two times I had the unit set and was watching the jig and fish...should have left well enough alone...made a few changes to help screen clarity and went to crap. At least I know it has it in to give what I need but fine tuning can be a lone process.
Came back home and have been going over the manual and taking notes. Going back out this afternoon on factory defaults and less of a urge to push buttons.
That 6.4 will ruin a man. Clear, sharp and great detail. Hope to get this 859 fine tuned as well.

Pretty sure you wouldn't want to try going back from 6.8 if that came on your 859. The xx9 series are supposed to have a newer faster processor and the older software ver may not even be compatible. Its also been advised not to especially for newer units.

Dont know about that faster processor though. While in maps I noticed that the refresh rate lags when zooming in or out. The 898 I never had a issue and it's really noticeable in the 859.

I doubt there even is a 6.4 version for the 859 since they were just released.......I sure wouldn't want to try to load the 858 software in the 859.
It has been made clear by Humminbird to not try to take a unit backward from the release it came with......There are a few who have violated that with some of xx8 series units and got it to work, but if you "brick" a unit trying to go to an older version of software they may not warranty the fix.

Exactly Bob, figured I'd ask first instead of jumping into something I don't know anything about. Will not be able to get back out with the unit till Wednesday so I'll have time to go over the diff. settings again to read how they effect what in the unit. Took some time with the 898 so hope to get the 859 dialed in as well.
thx guys

Don't give up on pushing buttons. That is a good way to learn about the different functions.
Bless HB for the "reset defaults" button. I'm very, very familiar with it. I even have a sheet of changes to make after reset to get back
to a known starting point that I like. Some of us learn better that way.

Reset was made and we'll see about this next trip.
Read more about 83khz in split screen...reference to adjustments and not effecting the 200.
Not tried yet but can max mode be ran to watch the jig in split screen 200/83? Going to try it next time out. Like i said, not worried about catching right now...just learning.

To watch a jig, I would pick max mode over clear mode. More return information displayed.
The other control would be to bump the sensitivity up to see if that helps.

I would think you would be able to see your jig even with only 200Khz. The 200/83 will allow you to be farther off to the side of your transducer with the jig. I agree that max mode would be the best way to go.
Using very long poles would also be a problem, because that would put the jig too far out in front of the transducer. The jig needs to be directly under the transducer as much as possible......without getting the line in the trolling motor....Don't ask how I know.
