Topic: Settings for drop shotting?

Lake erie is in my backyard and i want to use my 898 csi for drop shotting so i can see my drop shot and the fish. What tips does anyone have for adjusting the settings?

Switchfire Max mode and then adjust Sensitivity to an "acceptable" amount of screen clutter...

Use 200kHz "Beam Select" setting to display echoes in the 20° cone under the xducer...

Use "Upper Range" setting in the 2d Xpress menu to remove part of the upper water column (that your not interested in anyway)...

Use "Lower Range" setting in the 2d Xpress menu to paint the bottom at the lower part of the display to maximize the available screen....

Chart Speed at 10 in the 2d Xpress menu to maximize screen refresh rate...(don't forget this is a "Global" setting and it changes the DI and SI chart speed also)...

It has also been mentioned to try the "Dual Beam" setting under the "Transducer Select" menu to shut off the SI transmitters (it seems this advice may help with some pixelation problem in certain software versions)...

Tr, so what did you come up with and how did it work for you?

I did try it and found it worked better with the sonar at 200/83 and also zooming in on the screen. It's important to use a heavy enough weight to stay as vertical as possible under the transducer. Unfortunately the smallies were not around just the darn sheepshead! Thank you for the help!

Good to hear it worked out!  Also try this and tell me if you see a defference. 

Face the nose of the TDucer to the left (9 oclock).  Drop jig at the right or rear of the TDucer or (3 o'clock )



See if you have a better track by doing this,  for some reason I can track my jig much better by getting a reading from the back of the ducer instead of the side.  Even my 1/32 and 64th's come in better.
