I was wondering how long you can record sonar data on a 4gb sdhc card?
Thanks,
TB

Well, you can record until the 4gb runs out! ;D
There are several factors to recording size that will affect how long you can record. The range is probably the biggest factor. The larger the range setting the more bytes that are recorded per ping. Also, if you have the 83khz transducer enabled. A file is recorded for each transducer, so having it enabled will add 33 percent more data to the recording.
Typically 4 gb SD card can record for hours at say a 100' range setting. I would suggest breaking it up in to 30 minute recordings if possible. If you plan on playing it back on the computer, most softwares right now cannot handle very large files.
Hope this helps,
Robert

Very helpful. Thanks! :D

I agree with Robert about breaking it up into 30 minute segments, I have done a 1 1/2 hours and it takes a long time to load it for viewing. With 30 minute segments you can easily get a whole day out of the 4 GB chip.

Hey
I have a Record.
Length: 1 hour 47 min.
SI range: 95 meters both sides.
Max depth: 46 meters
Total size for all .IDX and .SON files: 664 MB .

Well, if you review on the unit that is 1hour & 47minutes of playback. Not to mention how hard it is to go to different places on the recording playback. That large of file will take a while to load to a computer and then a viewer like humvierew or yellowfin will take a very long time to load. However once it is loaded you can skip around in the recording with out much delay. Most recordings should not exceed 30 minutes. Remember also that while recording you cannot take a snapshot. chuck

Thanks to everyone for the posts. That is exactly what I was asking. The tip to break up the recordings makes a lot of sense - thanks.
I will go with the 4gb card.
