I am going to buy an 898SI. $ 1499 seems to be the going rate.  I saw a post where someone purchased it cheaper than that but I can not find it now.

I hope you do but I think the price is pretty much standard all around.  I would be very careful if you find it much cheaper than $1499.

J and H always seems to have the best prices.  There is one on ebay froma very reputable dealer, but I am always leary of buying expensive items like this from ebay.  BUt $1439 and free shipping is a pretty good deal.

I read on another forum that HB is making ALL their dealers advertise at the same price as the big retail stores ...BPS.GM, Cabelas....

But that doesn't mean they have to sell at that same advertised price......

Talk to the CS rep at the place you plan on buying from and see what he can do....

I purchased my 1197 on Ebay at a very good price and would do it again.  But like Robert stated you need to be careful and do your Homework.  For sure you should look around and make some phone calls.

  I bought mine on Cascade GPS for 1178 delivered.  When I went to look for it tonight, they were at 1499 so someone from Humminbird must have put the screws to them.  Looks like it was a very good price.  That said, I found Cascade by doing a search on Humminbird 898 and sorting by best price.  The only thing I check is to make sure enough people have commented on the service.
