Sorry if this has been covered before - it is very hard to find info on the Onix Series in Australia now that the Helix units have been introduced.

Can I network a 898sI with an Onix 8 directly or do I need a Network Module?

It doesn't look like you can network the units.  To find the answer I went to Humminbird.com  I did a search for network chart.  This is the page that came up  http://www.humminbird.com/Search/?q=network%20chart (http://www.humminbird.com/Search/?q=network%20chart)   From this page you can download the info you need.

ONIX and core series can only share Waypoints  ...(and newest software on the xx8 series I think)  ...

xx8 series still had the metal screw Ethernet connector (and so does ONIX)... so you would need and Ethernet cable long enough to reach both head units  ...
