I am trying to transfer the wpts from my 998 to my 788. I exported all the data to an 8gb SD card. I know the export succeeded because all the newest wpts show up in humminbirdPC. When I put the card in the 788 message says "no new data found" and the newest waypoints aren't there.
Both units have the last upgrade, In 2015 I put iPilot link in the system and this is the first time I have tried to transfer waypoints from the 998 to the 788 since that upgrade. Could that be the problem?
I have the units hooked up to an AC to DC converter so I can work inside, it has been below zero here in Iowa. I am doing this stuff in the Simulator Mode. The menu doesn't go to Nav, in normal, I suppose because there are no transducers or GPS modules hooked up. Although the 788 has an internal GPS.

Never mind. I downloaded the data from my sd card to humminbirdPC and then from humminbirdPC to a blank sd card put the card in the 788 and in the data went. It had been so long since I had done that, I skipped it, trying to load from 998 to card to 788. Seems like you should be able to do it that way, apparently not. :)

I thought you could too ..... may have something to do with the profile folder that gets created on the SD card once inserted in a unit.

I just watched a video on tube and they transferred waypoints exactly like I tried to do it but I couldn't. Hmmmm

There were some major software changes made after 6.3 ...... there may be a compatibility issues causing this. The communications between 6.3 and 7.67 may be an issue also. My 1197 at 6.3 will not share waypoints via communications with my 1198 if I upgrade the 1198 to the latest revision.

That is too bad So running them through humminbirdPC must do something to make them compatible?

Yes....one thing it does is generate a fresh profile folder. not sure what else may be involved.
I normally use Humminbird PC anyway, it it would be better to be able to do this while fishing. I will give it a try on my units when I get a chance.

Have you checked your account to see if there is an update for the 788? I'm not sure what the most current release is for it, but it is probably higher than 6.3...... as long as it is update to something higher than 6.57, they should share waypoints over Ethernet.
I haven't updated my 1197 beyond 6.310 because there are problems in the highest update for the 1197 that I don't want.....I don't think the 788 should have issues with the most current release.

6.3 is the last update for my 788, it is not ethernet capable. I bought it in 2010, apparently they no longer support it. I bought the 998 in 2011, so I imagine the 7.670 will be it for the 998 as well. I am not able to spend the money to replace this stuff every other year or every year. I just put the i-pilot link addition to my terrova in 2015, so that will be it for me.

There are more updates for the HD version of the 788 .... but not the 788.... bummer.
You might be able to find an HD model pretty cheap if you do some looking around.
