Title: Using another unit as a remote monitor
Post by: newkid4si on May 15, 2016, 01:20:58 PM
I am not knowledgeable about networking. Heed your help.  I have two 1199's. If I purchase 2-- AS EC QDE's plus one-- AS EC (to length) E cable and hook the two units together and supply power to the second unit, will it function as a monitor and show what I'm looking at on the main unit? The second unit will not be attached to a transducer.

Yes .... If there is no transducer connected to the one unit, it is best to turn off the sonar on it.

The transducer sharing is located in the Network Setup menu....you can share the 2D, SI, and GPS from one unit to the other.

Not ONLY is it best to turn off the slave unit's Sonar - it will damage the unconnected unit, if you don't - and that's not warrantied either.
Seen it happen to peeps.
 :o
One of my 999's has been running this whole past season with nothing but the AS EC QDE and the PC11 connecting the unit - I take the 2D off the front trolling or whatever I put up on the Port side 999 while under way - I'll put something with map in front of me.
You'll like the options if you decide to mount a XDCR on both ends.
Even if your don't ~ enjoy, it's great stuff.

Part 2 of the question.

Can the person viewing the second (slave) unit adjust the settings / views without affecting the main unit?

NO.
The controls on the slave  act as if they are the master unit's.

Thanks for the reply. The three cables are around $125.00  Just trying to figure if it's worth it for my rider.
