Title: 798ci HD SI to Helix7 DI only
Post by: Meena on May 12, 2016, 10:15:23 PM
When I installed my 798 I upgraded to the better HD transducer and was wondering if I can use this same transducer with a DI unit only and can I use my existing wiring from my 798 unit?

The power wiring should be the same ...

The SI xducer used on a dedicated DI unit will work ... But not satisfactory ...

This is because the SI xducers do not have a dedicated "down pointing" DI piezo ...and the DI imaging (in the HELIX DI) will be getting its echo data from the right SI piezo in the SI xducer (which is "pointing" 60° from horizontal to the right side) ...

The HELIX DI will come with the XNT 9 DI T ...and it should be used ...unless there are plans for a trolling motor application ...wherein the XTM 9 DI 25 T should be used ...

Thanks for the info. My 798 started acting up and Humminbird wants $225ish to fix it so I was considering upgrading to a little bigger unit but I rarely use the SI on that unit but I do use it on the 798 I have up front. I mostly just use the GPS at the console. If I got a Helix 7 with SI could I use my existing transducer or would the one that comes with that unit be better?

You can use the 798 xducer on he HELIX 7 SI ...but it always recommended to use the new xducer that ships with the unit because xducers do wear over time and lose some Sensitivity ...

Then keep the 798 xducer for an emergency backup xducer ...
