Hi, i was reading about the new upgrade and were thrilled for 1sec. And then i realized that the posibillity to import kml files/charts and use them as maps on the zeroline card is only for helix/onix/ion. So my question is, will there be an update for the 98/99 units so we get this feature as well or do we have to buy new units to have this option.
Best regards

There has been no info regarding the xx8/xx9 series ..
But HB has never been known to leak feature releases before they hit the market ...
You can contact HB and tell them your interest in this feature ...they log requests ...

I read elsewhere that people are having success bringing over image tied to KML calibration and uploading to head unit. I am going to test it this weekend.

works on my 798 hd imported ols paper map as kml

AWESOME!!!! What file format was the image prior to converting. I am running into issues with mine, KML tied to jpg & png formats.
-
I converted a kml to img file ............start page...map...convert to lakemaster IMG
took a while and pc tried to crash....said not responding a couple times but did convert map :)
I wonder if there is a size or resolution limit that one can convert? a question for HB support
I know I had to shrink my custom map background so that AC would accept it.....
maybe try a smaller image ??

response from HB: regarding img file
The main limitation comes from AC being a 32b application. As such it can only use (app+ loaded data) up to 4GB (3GB on 32 bit windows),
given there is enough RAM off course.
- To maximize the image size that can be used it is therefore important to make sure as little memory as possible is allocated to other stuff
when creating the IMG layer:
1: Set the 'internal map size' to a smallish value.
2: Restart AC.
3: Create that IMG layer immediately after a restart (ie do not load any data).
I did ask for actual numbersbut thought this might help though
PS I processed a file that took about 3 mins ...pc said not responding a couple times but it did work
I just noticed I have this image as a jpeg at 4.64 MB and same image saved as png but its33.2 Mb maybe the jpeg is the way to go???
not sure...I don't know much about this IMG stuff
anyone feel free to chime in

I did a bit more testing this evening and tried a second computer without any luck. I adjusted the size of my jpg images from 50mb down to 2.5mb and tried the things you suggested DS. I am wondering if the dimensions of my image are the issue now, they are very large but AC has never had issues with them as custom background maps inside the program. For example one is 20736 x 13312. What are the dimensions of your image DS?

5585x3169 file size 4.64MB
maybe u need to cut your image into smaller pieces
...still waiting for answer from HB regarding size of image

Issue on my end was definitely the dimensions of the image. Had to cut it down to about 4500x1500 to stop the program crashes. Looks like I will lose some definition but it will be cool to have the img layers on the head unit. Might try running AC on very high end computer at work to see if it will convert the larger dimension images. On my computer the dimensions have much more of an effect than the file size. I was able to load a 30mb .bmp file without trouble, but I had to be at the lower dimensions.

lance , ....my pc is quite robust and has 2 quad core xenon processors and 16 gb ram and just barely processes my file .... trying to hang up in the process.
so there must be a limitation on actual size dimension that will work... mine was 5585x3169
