Chirp is available in the Helix 12 only at this time ....The 12 will chirp with the standard transducer, and it was available before they released it in the Onix.

I think they added it to the Onix because they didn't want the Helix to have features the Onix didn't have.

There is no way to know if they can or will add chirp to other Helix models .... but I would be surprised if they do .... Of course I was surprised when they made the Onix capable of chirping the standard transducer without using the SM3000.

I couldn't get the 12 helix to fit in the space I had but the 10 fits grate but to have helix 12 with chirp but not in 9 and 10 baffles me. The reason I got helix is for auto chart and chirp tech.http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/Smileys/classic/evil.gif (http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/Smileys/classic/evil.gif)

CHIRP is not that big of a deal....it is much ado  about nothing. Don't worry about it.

I'd think that someone who has such a poor % at being correct would be a little more careful about what was being posted.

Bob,  do you work for hummingbird? Why is  it your are always kissing the posterior of Hummingbird's  bank account NOT in the best interests of the BUYING Consumer? CHIRP is not that big of a deal and  paying $2299 for a Helix 12 thinking CHIRP is going to the manna from sonar heaven is delusional at the most and insignificant  and at the least. Like I told YOU in January  ... I bought a 1199Si with free remote for $1299 and I predicted it would happen....what did you predict?  " ALL you sonar dummies are going to be forced to pay mfg's suggested retail for 2 years, so suck it up and give hummingbird your hard earned cash? ?????"

So now you are telling people to go out in the backyard and pick that  money tree to buy a $1000 dollar 360 transducer for an overpriced Onix 8 or 10   if they want to see some crappie?    Yeah right Bobby.........

I personally wouldn't pay extra $ in a unit to get chirp.....It isn't going to be that useful for the way I fish ..... but there are circumstances where it is very helpful, and could be a deciding factor when comparing units....The 2D on chirp units is MUCH better......Not necessarily because of the "chirping" itself (but that's a whole other discussion.)  If you spend time looking at snapshots and videos that are on the web, this is irrefutable......If 2D performance is an important issue to the way you fish, a chirp capable unit will be better than one that isn't.

Blanket statements that it is much ado about nothing is dismissive and rude to the OP and shows a lack of knowledge on the subject.

No...I don't and never have worked for Humminbird .... If I did, they would probably fire me for wasting my time engaging with someone like you.......Fishing electronics is a hobby for me, and I have spent a LOT of time over the past several years learning everything I can about it.....and trying to help other people with answers when I can....Not just getting on forums to stir the pot like some do.  There is a term for that but I don't want to start the name calling game.

If I had a chirp unit, I think the most useful aspect for me would be the ability to select a frequency based on the coverage I wanted and also the ability set it so it won't interfere with other units.

If any of us were concerned with what our $/fish cost is, we would be fishing from the bank with a cane pole or Zebco 202 instead of using a boat and expensive electronics......it is a hobby, and most of them get expensive.   I fish for all kinds of fish species....one of them being crappie....and the fishing is a LOT more fun when you have the tools to help locate them.  Those links were posted to show the improvement in the Onix 2D even when doing chirp with the standard transducer.

Spring is pretty much here, and I still don't see all those huge rebates you were promising on the Helix series ..... Have you gone to Australia to take advantage of the one you tried to trick us with?

I guess all I wanted to know if the chirp technology is going to be available for the next smaller ones I didn't want to open that of worms

Sorry for the disruption....I doubt you will see chirp on the 9 or 10 anytime soon ....but they are due for an update, so we will have to wait and see.

So far, the only thing that has been announced for that update is Smartstrike.

It will be interesting to see if HB feels the present processor capability in the HELIX 9 and 10 can handle the increased load that adding CHIRP would create ...

As HELIX 12 was originally offered with CHIRP ...it would seem HELIX 12 already had the processing capability ...

I have yet to find verification that the HELIX 12 has a better processor than the HELIX 9 and 10 ...

Bob Thanks for posting the links. I've been looking for more info on this chirp stuff trying to decide if it's something I could use or not.

The AutoChart Live product and the AutoChart PC products are 2 completely different products ...(even tho both have the "AutoChart" moniker) ...

They will not interchange ...nor talk to each other at this time ...

Each product has its own unique features that can't be obtained nor utilized by the other product ...

It's kinda like a Kenmore oven and a Kenmore microwave ... They both say Kenmore - they both cook food ... But they are not the same ...

Most comments to date are that AutoChart Live is more convenient ... While the AutoChart PC products create better mapping ...

Each user has to decide which advantage benefits them more ...
