I have been recording my data from my 997 and playing it on Humviewer. The last few times I have used it I cannot play one or more files on the new data. The ones I can play show the files with a folder containing the date. That looks fine. Below I have the DAT file and it shows 0kb. The ones that play show 1kb. The ones that do not play are not making the .xml.bak or the .xml stand alone file. IN the folders the data was collected on the .son file. Can anyone help, explain or show me how to fix this? I have attached screen shots. The last one is how it should be. The first and second show the problem. Mark

Let me check my files when I get home tonight ...
I'm pretty sure the xml and bak files are only present "If" you have created Waypoints in Humviewer ...
If I recall ... the 0kb indication was present only if the recording wasn't physically stopped with the "Stop Recording" command in any Xpress view ...and Humviewer couldn't process the recording data without a definite "end point" in the recording ...

I get the opening message on top but it doesn't open. It is 27,847 kb.

Here is a basic HB recording in the RECORD folder ...and the associated files in the R0000x folder ...
(http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr134/rnvinc/misc/Humviewer%20before%20waypoint_zpsqsjzh5du.jpg) (http://s477.photobucket.com/user/rnvinc/media/misc/Humviewer%20before%20waypoint_zpsqsjzh5du.jpg.html)
The R0000x folder contains the following :
B0000.IDX = data associated with 83kHz channel recording
B0000.SON = recorded 83kHz Sonar channel
B0001.IDX = data associated with 200kHz channel recording
B0001.SON = recorded 200kHz Sonar channel
B0002.IDX = data associated with left SI channel recording
B0002.SON = recorded left SI Sonar channel
B0003.IDX = data associated with right SI channel recording
B0003.SON = recorded right SI Sonar channel
Here is the HB recording files in the RECORD folder after a waypoint is created in Humviewer ...
(http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr134/rnvinc/misc/Humviewer%20after%20waypoint_zpswwshcyrn.jpg) (http://s477.photobucket.com/user/rnvinc/media/misc/Humviewer%20after%20waypoint_zpswwshcyrn.jpg.html)
The XML Document and the xml.bak file are only created after a Humviewer waypoint in created ...
I have only ever seen a 0kb DAT file if the HB recording was not manually commanded to Stop Recording or if the SD Card became full before the Stop Recording was commanded ...regardless of the kb showing in the IDX or SON files ...
I think Robert knows how to get that recorded data available without the needed stuff in the DAT file ...if you want to try and contact him by PM ...

If you have 0k in a file then the file was not closed properly. Possibly a power glitch in the supply. Or the recording was not stopped manually.
I have found over years that it is not a good idea to have older recording on the chip you are transferring to. Generally it is accepted to have a clean card each day you are going to do recordings. Another tip is to copy recorded file over to a folder and rename then (1st part of the file name to some like a date and a letter. EX: 03122015A, 02122015B etc) You can also file the recorded data in a home folder using a lake name and then the date format.
Each time you put a card into the unit and start a recording it will automatically create a file called record. Into that is where the recorded data goes.
Each recording will have a .dat file and then 8 associated files under it.

I did have a power issue. Can the .son file be played elsewhere without the dat file?
-
Not that I know of. the way the record is set up is the relationships of the files.
Record which contains the .dat file which points to the record number associated file.
The record number contains the .idx and .son files associated with the record number.
B000, B001, B002 and B003 are the actual data for the 4 types of recordings made when you record. And the .idx are the index files for each BXXX file.

I am gonna reconfigure how I supply the power and that should fix the issue. Mine are portable as I search for people and aircraft and such for families or at the request of law enforcement. I retired after 24 years in LE last September. I think bumpy boats have interrupted the power and caused this. I am gonna make it "more hard and that should fix the issue. Thanks to all.
