Title: Help!!!!!!!! With 898C SI
Post by: slabmaster on March 18, 2010, 08:10:56 PM
Installed unit everything when great. Turn on unit on and off a few times. Was trying to get it in simulation mode. Turn the unit off and went to turned it on nothing. Checked at the plug and had 12.36. Any thoughts? From the penthouse to the outhouse in a matter of minutes.

Check the power connection.  Maybe the pins on the power cable.  Also check fuses, battery connections, etc.

Disconnect the power and reconnect it and see if it will come back on.

Do these things lock up?

Not normaly!  Did you try to bend the pins on the power cable connector out a little bit.  Sometimes the pins do not make good connection and if you bend them outward slightly, it will make the fit a little more snug.

Have you eliminated any other issues, like fuses or connectors.  Hook the unit directly to a battery or a 12v power supply to see if it could be any issues from the connection back to the battery.

It's got 12.36 volts at the plug where it plugs into the unit.

Gotcha! Just trying to eliminate any possible issues.  Have you checked the battery while its under a load?

Did you try slightly bending the pins out?

Slabmaster I would try another voltage source before you send the unit back just because
your reading 12.36 volts don't mean nothing other than the fact you have the potential
for 12 volts don't mean you have any power. Hope this helps.   Gary

I'm sure you've already checked, but be certain polarity of plug to unit is correct. The power cord isn't polarized and if plugged in upside down the unit won't work.

Are you using a digital voltage meter? If yes some times they will lie, believe me I know what I am talking about. In some meters the impedance is to high and you will read back voltage or what is called ghost voltage in the really world , but not enough power to run any thing even thou the meter is reading 12.3 volts. Try using an analog meter or if you do not have one take a light bulb for a car like an 1157 type bulb big easy to work with and solder two wires to it one on a pin and the other on the side of the bulb or buy a 12 volt test light at a auto parts store. . Test it on a battery to make sure it lights , now put it into the power plug if you have 12.3volts it should light then you know you have power and there is something wrong with the unit. Hope this was of some help. That would really suck if you have to send back a new unit.   Good Luck
