Title: Dam outflow
Post by: fishmanmike on March 16, 2010, 10:13:05 PM
This shows what I think is a large corragated pipe outflow at the dam in Prineville resivoir, oregon.

Good picture  especially at the depth you were scanning.  It certainly look like a pipe.  Is it possible to get a bit closer or does the dam have a restricted area. I would like to see a scan at maybe 1/2 the distance.  Good job with this recording.   could you also reference your settings at the time of the recording.
If you have a recording of this could you send to me via transbigfiles.  You will probably have to segment the files.  .dat then the b00X .idx & .son.  should be 7 files in all.  Chuck

Thanks Chuck.  I think I drove almost directly over the top of it as it shows in all 3 views, otherwise it would not show on the downscan, Right?  This is just a snapshot and I think all my settings were the default settings.
I need to let you know I am severely computer challenged so you pretty much lost me at the end there!  :-[

ok, if you have a recording we can talk you thru the send files thingy.   the deep depths are letting the cones show the side to side coverage.  and with the Di the depth is getting a good bottom cone.   135 feet is good scanning.  you got some great pictures.     how deep is the actual bottom?  Chuck

The Down Image is from the 455 SI transducer. so your depth will effect the coverage at the bottom.  It does not look as if you drove right over it but rather a little more to the side. at 135 feet the bottom coverage of the SI (on one side) is pretty far out.  chuck   keep the pictures coming.

Chuck, do you know what the cloud in the water is? Could it just be turbulance? I noticed it in another pict on the 998 forum under down imaging problems.

Mike,

The cloud in the water is actually air bubbles from the outboard.   If you (or another boat) had passed through the area a few minutes before, they will hang around for a while and will be picked up by the Side Imaging.

This is a good example of how the SI looks out to each side just under the surface of the water and not just down towards the bottom.

Thanks Robert, That is what I suspected. My 1st pass over the cloud trail was not there but when I did a 180 It was there. Mike
