what is the general opinion of installing a side imaging unit on a transom mount trolling motor with regards to the direction changes always occurring with the motor

The best SI images come from traveling in a straight line at a constant slower speed ( 2-5 mph ). I find that any turns other than very gradual results in distorted images.

That's an interesting mounting concept ...

What is your interest in mounting the HDSI to a transom mount TM ... Instead of on the transom itself ... ??

No different than having one mounted on a front-mounted trolling motor.  The images will change with each movement left or right of the motor.  If you keep the movements slow or make straight line passes the images won't be too bad.  Heavy or hard movements will give you a distorted view.  It can be used as a poor man's 360, though.  Doug Vahrenberg did a youtube video showing that being done.
