Title: Chart question 999Ci HD SI
Post by: skeeter08 on November 13, 2015, 06:24:17 AM
So first 2 days with new 999 and i'm having 2 issues, which are probably operator issues.

1. When I zoom out the charts all the depths and bouys disappear from the screen. First I thought it was just zoomed out to far however if I move the cursor to the right everything shows up unfortunately its not where my location.

If I zoom in the chart it is full of data but to small to read, I wanted to see what data was available before I decided to buy a map.

2. another issue I'm having is i do most of my fishing on a trolling motor so my engine is off when I restart my engine the 999 shuts down is the power draw shutting the unit down?

By the way the SI is showing up perfect and put a couple beautiful reds in the locker yesterday.

Question 2 ...: Cranking your big motor is stealing enough power that the unit doesn't have enough to operate ...

Either your battery is too small or the battery is going bad ...

Your local parts store will load test the battery to see if it has a bad cell or going bad ...

Question 1 ...: I'm not sure I understand ...

Do you have a map card in the unit...??

no card just what is on the unit from hummingbird. Before I buy a card I wanted to see if there is enough detail on the standard unit before buying any map cards.

When the chart page comes up it shows all the depths and markers but as soon as I hit zoom once it all disappears, moving the cursor to the right all the data in that area shows up but its not in my operating area. Moving the cursor back to my location removes all markers and depths from the page I thought it was just exploded to far but its not the case. I guess I just need to buy a map for my area in fl.

Hi Skeeter08!
First, just buy the card and don't look back.  The units base charts are not available for all lakes or just part of the lake.
Second, also check to make sure that your ignition switch is not just cutting power to the accessories while cranking.  You can do that with a test light or run test leads with a fuse direct from the unit to the battery.

Like Ronquest mentions ...the built in Contour XD mapping only covers 3000 lakes nation wide and those are not very good maps ...

HB will accept Navionics or LakeMaster mapping cards ...

You can see the present data on the Navionics webapp ... Zoom in to your lake on this webpage ...
http://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en#@6&key=_%7B%7CfF~h%60oQ (http://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en#@6&key=_%7B%7CfF~h%60oQ)

And here is the lake list for LakeMaster ...
http://www.humminbird.com/Category/Support/Find-a-Lake/ (http://www.humminbird.com/Category/Support/Find-a-Lake/)

Tell me the name of your lake area and I can look at it on my Contour XD map ...(I'm sure the Contour XD mapping just lacks good data on the built in map) ...

don't do lakes spend most of my time inshore at St Augustine Fl. occasionally run offshore if the conditions are good.  I also take the boat to the Keys/Carabelle a couple times a year fishing and scalloping.

I would guess Navionics is going to be your best choice ...

The Navionics webapp I linked before will show exactly what detail would be on the card ...

Agree you got a battery too small or a cell going. Now to the meat of the matter. I have and all users have the problem with icons for maps being too small and not showing up on some zoom in and zoom out levels. It's the normal, I don't like it but it's a Fact Jack. Map chips don't help with this, they do give alot greater detail.  I have sent comments to HB to program user to increase size of icons like on some unit. The size of there Nav. Aids can not be seen in a boat at any speed. You have to know where the aid is and it on the map. Useless as it is. Love my units but this could be a very useful thing to increase Nav. Aid size from Small , Med, Larger and Extra Larger. When you need to know there location, you need to be able to see them.  I do know the older Garmins had this in the program. ;D
