Title: Question on PVC
Post by: Blackhawk19 on August 27, 2015, 06:21:03 PM
I have a Helix 7 on order and I'm curious if PVC shows up on SI and if so what settings do you use to see it?

This post is 6 old and 71 views and not one reply, should I have posted this somewhere else on the forum?

Hi,
I guess no one knows the answers. I think few people have any experience from scanning for PVC targets. Since reflections are strong at large difference between the acoustic impedances in water and the target one would expect quite strong reflection from PVC. Several resins have impedances close to water and can be difficult to detect with sonar. PVC deviates in this respect. I don't think you need specific settings for this.

Hey Dave ... I have heard of the idea of capping the PVC ...creating an air chamber ...with the thought of of the trapped air maybe mimicking a fish's air bladder ...

I don't know if anyone has actually tested this theory ...

I do know that justinp61 on crappie.com has some Lowrance DI images of PVC ...

Maybe post this question also over there ...where justin might see it and post his images (he has Lowrance so he wouldn't be in this forum) ...

I do plan on doing some PVC stakebed tests on my next venture of xducer experiments ...

I just have to get my test xducers rewired to be able to plug them into my 1197 ...
