I recently purchased an 899 with side imaging, swapping out the standard transducer for the nine series transducer. The unit will be mounted on a Triton 177 walleye boat. The question I have is where to mount the transducer. The attached images illustrate that there is a "cut-out" on the port side with a screened intake. There is another "cut-out" on the starboard side. I don't believe that has any screens. Then a common wall joins the two "cut-outs". There is a drain plug in the center of that wall and on its roof is one more screen. On Humminbird's site, (http://www.humminbird.com/Category/Support/FAQ/SI_Transducer/# (http://www.humminbird.com/Category/Support/FAQ/SI_Transducer/#)) I believe my boat comes closest to image number seven (from left to right) in the top row of the transom mount fiberglass boats. However, if I mount in the center, I'm a little concerned that the drain plug, and especially the screen, will cause a lot of turbulence, not so much on the side scan, but on the sonar while underway. Any help appreciated. Thanks guys.

1st... You should realize that none of your transom is actually in the water while on plane....

That leaves a few options ...
Option 1 ...Mount the HDSI low enough on the transom to get the face of the HDSI below the bottom hull portion of your boat ...(meaning lower than the blue lines in the pic above) ...
Option 2 ...Mount the HDSI higher on the transom for idle-speed scanning ...and add an additional XNT 9 20 Dual beam mounted low enough on the transom to get the face of the XNT 9 20 below the bottom hull portion of your boat (meaning lower than the blue lines in the pic above)... (this setup would also need the AS SIDB Y cable) ...
Option 3 ...Mount the HDSI higher on the transom for idle-speed scanning ...and add an additional XP 9 20 Dual Beam in the bilge ... (This setup would also need the AS SIDB Y cable) ...

This is WAY past due, but better late than never, I guess. Rickie asked me to take a photo of the configuration I decided on, and after several weeks, I finally remembered. I decided to go with a high-speed in-hull transducer along with the 9-series transducer for the side imaging. A friend who owns a marine repair business (Dockside Marine in Hackensack, MN) did the work. He made the bracket that you see in the attached photos. Thanks again to Rickie for his response.
