Hi everyone! Purchased an 899ci hd si a couple months back and am trying to get it dialed in. I'm running the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T transducer with the unit out of my kayak and have a few questions. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
1. Is the correct transducer selection "Hi-Def Sidescan"?
2. Should I be running 200/83kHz? The screenshot is just 200.
3. Can I get some opinions on what I'm looking at in the screenshot? I matched the chart speed as best I could on the kayak, but I've never have seen arches.

I think the front to back tilt of your transducer is off ..... I am having a brain cloud right now, and can't remember how to tell which way it is off.
If Rickie checks in later he will be able to tell you.

Thanks for the info Bob! I have to lower the transducer down manually each time so this makes perfect sense.

It's unlikely you will see arches at the low chart speed/match boat speed for good SI imaging ...
Arches (in the 2d view) are a combination of the target staying in the 2d cone for repetitive pings and a high enough chart speed to plot those repetitive pings across several pixels in the 2d view ...
Unfortunately the HB unit Chart Speed setting is Global ...meaning the same chart speed is set for all views ...
So a matching chart speed to garner good SI images ...is just way too slow to create arches in 2d ...

The correct "Transducer Select" menu choice for the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T is indeed "Hi Def Sidescan" ...
"Beam Select" menu of 200kHz will give just a tad faster chart speed than 83kHz or 83kHz/200kHz (because the 2d transmitter doesn't have to alternate between transmitting 83kHz and 200kHz) ...
I will typically only use a 83kHz or 83kHz/200kHz Beam Select choice when my boat speed is less than 0.5mph (to slow the effective chart speed below the minimal "1" setting) ...

Correct ... Max out the Chart Speed for 2d ...(you can still see fish blobs at lower chart speed but not at the chart speed needed for imaging DI/SI) ...
And remember to slow the Chart Speed back down to match boat speed when viewing DI or SI ...
The global Chart Speed is aggravating I know ... But it is what it is ...

Thanks Ric for being such a great resource. I've found the best way to see classic fish arches is to ensure that the pitch and yaw of the transducer is exactly perpendicular to the lake bottom. I have a portable rig for my transducer, and I finally put a circular bubble level on it to ensure proper alignment before lowering it below the water line (attached it with some marine Shoe Goo). I get much better images this way on 2D, DI, and SI.
