Title: 1100 Series Connectors
Post by: Chiboo on March 09, 2010, 03:21:06 AM
HI!
On page 6 of the new instruction, at area  connector 5 "Temp/Speed" there is an unknown connector. What is the connector, can be Ethernt port? I have sold the 797, I look narrowly to 1197. Whether plans HB in 1100 series model updating since it would not be desirable to get in advance out-of-date model for the big money. I choose between 1197 for 6400$ or StarFish for 3000$ here in Russia. By the current moment I am am stopped by uncertainty in updatings 1100 series, absence at 1197 Ethernet port, possibility of use of own maps and a big price at us.
Any information in this point in question clearing is welcomed.
Thanks

Thnx, Chuck  ;)
If we think about same it is pleasant news. There was one unresolved question which stops from purchase 1197, whether there will be a hardware change of flagman model in 2010 or all will manage in the best traditions HB - new firmware.

I know the feeling Alex.  We are all waiting on this plug to start working.    ;D  I guess the hardware folks are ahead of the software folks.  Greg, can you or are you allowed to weigh in on this.  Chuck

Right now there are no Ethernet supported menus or accessories – but I’m hopeful that it will change in the not-to-distant future.  Our Customers have asked to be able to connect to devices that we cannot do without the bandwidth the Ethernet port allows us.  Not saying that I know of anything definite here but I am hopeful.

Hi, Greg.
This answer is better than silence and slightly opens a veil of secrecy from distance in half of globe a little.  :)

Alex,
still isn't clear. Is this wireless stuff or faster connections or bigger transfer rate??

Harry, technology is faster than growing old.   ;D
 - Ethernet is the most widely-installed local area network ( LAN) technology. Specified in a standard, IEEE 802.3, Ethernet was originally developed by Xerox from an earlier specification called Alohanet (for the Palo Alto Research Center Aloha network) and then developed further by Xerox, DEC, and Intel. An Ethernet LAN typically uses coaxial cable or special grades of twisted pair wires. Ethernet is also used in wireless LANs. The most commonly installed Ethernet systems are called 10BASE-T and provide transmission speeds up to 10 Mbps. Devices are connected to the cable and compete for access using a Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD ) protocol.
does this help.
you can google and get a whole lot on ethernet.  chuck

Yes and some old guy in europe is having a birthday very soon.  I am not sure the direction HB is headed with the port but something is in the wind.  maybe faster data output. or larger volume of data.  I havn't heard anything about an internal hard drive so maybe some new stuff is on the horizon.  chuck
