				Hi, my dad have a 1198 with the 6.640 software on it, he just recently bought autochart pro and were goong tp install the latest sofware so he coulg get the maps up ang going. But something is going wrong, when he insert the sd card wiht the update file in the unit nothing happens. Kind of like it doesent see the file...  then we trir to find the software prior to this one but could not find that anywhere, any suggestions?

				You can find other soft wear versions in the download section on this site.

				Make sure you got a good download ..... Check the size of the file and compare it to what the download show it should be.
 
 Virus software and other PC issues can sometimes cause a corrupted or incomplete download.

				Well he have a complete new laptop with only autochart and panda antiwirus installed so far, and downloaded the software twice to different sd cards same thing with both cards. I did an attempt to update the 898 yesterday experiencung the same thing like its nothing there or the unit doesent recognize thie file. Since both units have the 6.640 software we figured that the keap from there to the current software might be to big, but there is no software abowe 6.640 availible on this site or anywhere else. As far as i have seen, there was somethig about the 6.640 beeing a line in the sand, but i thougth that were the possibility of downgrading software if one upgraded to the software abowe. So did i just miss the train, and will not have the opportunity to run autochart?

				And when i tried the 898 i used anothe pc and a another sd card than the 2 he tried so i dont think all downloads were bad, but if i could find the 6.7## software og 7.090 software it would maybe upgrade to that and from there to the current software. As there were reported some issues with the 7.080 and 7.090.

				After you download the update file, you should see one
 .bin file on the sd card.
 Also, maybe one of your card slots went bad.
 Did you try the update on both card slots?

				So far we have tried 2 sd cards in both slots in the 1198 both slots (using a brand new laptop)And a 3rd sd card downloaded soft on to the sd from an androidevice and tested this card in boht slots in the 898. There will be a new attemp this evenong using the old pc we used to update last time. This has the fsecure antiwirus instead of the panda antiwirus. Just in case that would be a problem. And as long as all 4 slots are being used for saving marks routes, pics, videos and navionics charts i dont think they would be the source of the problem.

				I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not, but is it possible the
 unit is in demo mode?

				No, 898 is.on the.water, and the 1198.were on the.water and in use last weekend. We will now try to trun off the.wirus programm to see if that matters.

				I just realized something.strange. erlier when we reset the units to factory default both these units to factory default they would be.set back.to.normal mode, but now they are still in advanced user mode.could this be the reason why nothing haddens?

				Is the "Self Test" view actually showing that 6.640 is the current software in the unit ...??
 
 Was the new software version 7.510 downloaded from your HB account on the HB website ...??

				The "Line in the Sand" deals with networking 2 or more units ...
 
 In order for the units to network all units have to be above or below the "Line in the Sand" ...

				Yes, both units claim to have the 6.640 soft on the self test screen. The software for my dads unit were downloaded from his user at humminbird.com the update for my unit were downloaded from my user at humminbird.com.  we have updated these units before and this is the first time we have had any problems with them at all.

				Tamnud, i will post a solution if i find one. At this moment it seems like we have tried everything. But, hopfully im going to figure this out, or more likely rickie or someone else of the brighter and more enlightend minds at this forum will think of a solution. By the way have you tried to downgrade the sotware? If that works it might able to upgrade to the 7.510 from the older soft.

				You can downgrade the software, but it is recommended by Humminbird to not take the unit backwards beyond the software release that shipped with it.
 
 Have you verified that the file size is OK?  The only other problems I have seen like this were when there was something wrong with the download file.

				I would suggest fully formatting the SD Card in HBPC ...(right click the SD Card picture and choose Full Format ... Not Quick Format) ...
 
 Download the file again from the HB website ...but download it first to your desktop ...
 
 Then transfer the .bin file to the SD Card ...
 
 Unplug everything from the head unit except the power cord ...then ...
 
 *Press the power button ...
 *During the HB Loading screen, press the Menu button ...
 *Choose "Normal" from the 3 choices in the popup window ...
 
 When the unit is fully booted into Normal, insert the SD Card ...
 ------
 
 If there is still no popup asking to install the software ...:
 
 *Insert a different SD Card ...
 *Enable Screenshot under the Accessories tab ...
 *Press the Mark button ...
 
 Check the Snapshot and Recording view to if the screenshot was successfully written to the SD Card ...
 
 What brand and size SD Card are you trying to use ...??

				If you are using Firefox on your computer, try using google chrome or Internet explorer.  Might help(made a difference for me on one of my downloads).

				We have tried all of these options rickie. Exept downloading to desktop first, and i do think we used chrome. So we will try these alternatives. :) and it would be awesome if this is the solution, if not im not going to downgrade any of the units untill september when all the tournaments and most of the season have ended. :)

				Problem solved, using internet explorer and downloading file to desktop first did the trick. :)
 So thank you for all the suggestions and input, once again this site and its members prove to be humminbirds most valuable feature. :)

				I had the same problem on my 1198 and 998. It is a problem with the file naming. For whatever reason, the downloaded files were named "xxx_bin" when it should be "xxx.bin". I simply renamed the files to "xxx.bin" and the updates went flawlessly.

				I realized I never responded to this thanks it worked. However now my updated 1198 wont save its presets... Any thoughts?

				And hide all your "Bird's Eye Views" after Restore defaults ... 
 
 This seems to be causing some oddities lately for some reason ...
