can anyone explain the surface shading? This is a new 899 on new boat. the Si & DI work great. in 2D, the digital depth is locked (2-3') and adjusting the surface clutter does not clean the shading. this makes the unit rather useless for running skinniy water here in Lousiana. My thoughts: bad 2D t'ducer, bad y-cable, or both. Any thoughts on how to fix? Called HB and they suggested updating to 7.590v. Not sure how this will help.

Last night I disconnected the Y-cable and connected the 2D straight to unit. Line at 3' still there. Next, connected the SI/DI ducer and no surface distortion. I believe the 2d is reading as evidenced of the bottom reading in 12'. question is: Do i try to knock the transducer loose and re-seat or just get another transducer? Any thoughts appreciated.

I'm going to gander that the installation has been compromised and the shoot thru is reading the hull ...
Place a block of wood next to the xducer and smack it with a hammer ... It should pop loose ...
Then clean the epoxy off the xducer and test it by hanging it in the water over the side of the boat ...
This will tell you if the xducer is bad ...
When re-installing a shoot thru ...be sure to test the mount area by placing a weight of sorts on the xducer and fill the bilge with just enough water to cover the xducer ...
