Howdy, I have been reading a lot about the problems mounting the SI transducer. This picture is the transducer for the 8000 I have in the boat now. It has always worked fine. Do youall think I can mount the transducer for the Helix SI in the same spot without trouble reading.
I really don't want to do the through hull and really don't want to have to use 2 transducers.

It definately would be worth a shot to try it in the same location ...
Depth readings at any speed are solely dependent on having uninterrupted bubble free water flowing across the face of the xducer at all times ...
This is sometimes difficult with stepped high performance hulls ...each hull design is different ... Creating their individual xducer mounting challenges ...
Mount the xducer and test at different speeds ... You may get lucky and have he perfect location in the first try ...
If there are issues at higher speeds (which is the general issue for stepped hulls) ... Bring your questions here and we will discuss alternatives ...

Imathankin ya Rickie. The step you see in my hull, isn't extended into the area where the existing transducer is. It's not very wide. This boat is a JayBee Bassmaster Fish & Ski that was made on Herrington Lake in Danville BTW.

Sometimes it's difficult to tell what exact hull design you have from pix ...
Like I mentioned ... Try the same mounting location as the current xducer ...and at different speeds ...
You might get lucky with your hull design ...

I'll tell yall one thing, I ain't real fond of this new mounting system for the transducer. Mine doesn't seem to want to stay clicked in the down position. Why can't we still have the metal mounts???
I flat do not like those confounded ratchets. I don't understand why you need to go through all the trouble of findin your transom slant, holding all that together and then you can push it up or down anyhow.
Besides all that, I finally got everything adjusted and mounted last night, went to my usual fishin spot, Big Bone Creek and they are dredgin at the ramp! I watched them for a while and the man runnin the ramp said I could go on when the swing the other way. They had stirred up so much mud, I didn't want my motor suckin up all that crap! So I came back home. So I still don't know how this here new Helix is gonna act!

Well I finally got on the water today. The depth finder works great and the transducer location seems to be fine. It get's a pretty good shot for SI with the motor trimmed down and gets good readings at speed. It does kick up a little rooster tail, but that don't consuine me much. I still gotta lot to learn about runin this machine. I reckon I'll have to print out some of the manual pages or sit in the boat here at home and work on it. I remember readin something about Daylight savings time but I can't remember where I change it. The time is an hour behind on the screen. I reckon I can take all the sticky plastic off the little Helix now. Looks like it's gonna stay. I wanted to run it one day before I update the software just to make sure it worked OK before I start messin with it.
