Title: 898c si on trolling motor

I had a 898c si at my console and moved it up front by my trolling motor. the transducer is mounted on the back of the boat. I now have an 1199hd si at the console and I just plugged the transducer into it that was used on my 898. I also networked the two units together with the Ethernet cable. Can I take the transducer that came with the 1199 and mount it on my trolling motor and plug it into my 898 up front? Does anyone ever put a si transducer on a trolling motor? If so what advantage would it have? Thanks

You would be getting sonar reading from where you are fishing at the bow, not 20 feet behind you.  You can point the Si sonar in any direction you want and even use it as a searchlight by viewing one Si sonar beam and sweeping the trolling motor back and forth.  Any waypoints marked from the bow would be more accurate.

Can I use both transducer at the same time? I mean can I look at my 1199 using the transducer on the back and look at my 898 using the transducer on the trolling motor even though they are connected with the Ethernet cable? If so is this hard to set up?

Yes graggy, each unit can use its own transducer even though they are Ethernet connected.  However, there is the possibility of sonar-to-sonar interference (sonar cross-talk) for the 2D 200kHz sonar and the Si sonar (but only if you have the trolling motor mounted HDSi transducer turned 90 degrees such that either the left or right Si beam is pointing at the rear HDSi transducer).  For the 2D sonar interference you can try turning on and up the Noise Filter menu.

Setting each unit to use its own transducer is not needed, they should do this by default.  Do you have a copy of the Ethernet manual?
