Am I ok running a 1199ci hd si on my starting battery all day with a 1000mca battery without running the battery down to the point that my 225 optimax wont start?

That is not a good situation to be in. A second "house battery" is a good idea for accessories. Or at least another battery to get a jump off of.(if you have jumper cables). The key # on battery longevity is AH(amp hours). Cranking amps is max power but does not relate to length of time it will hold up. Bob

I think I am having the same problem with my 1197 draining my new starter/deep cycle battery? my Optimax cannot charge the battery enough after using my 1197 all day? When I put the volts readout on you can watch the voltage quickly go to 11.5v!!! When I start the Optimax you can see it slowly recover, but not enough some times to start the main motor reliably??

Either the batter is going bad or it is too small to run the electronic and othe drains on it. If it 2 or more years old you should pull it and go to auto zone or most other auto parts stores and have them load test it. The new one if you need one should be a marine battery bigger than the one you have. Bob

It doesn't take much of a battery to run one of these sonars.
I have about the smallest marine battery you can get.
It's not a good idea to have your sonar hooked to your starting battery.
Your motor will have an internal alternator to charge the battery, and it may cause
interference with your sonar.
It's recommended to hook the sonar to it's own battery, which will eliminate a lot of
potential interference issues.

Running a 1199 off the starter battery shouldn't be a problem with a good battery especially if you are getting any run time between fishing spots. The specs for cranking batteries on the newer optimax pro xs engines is usually good enough to run a single graph. I've run two graphs and livewells for 8hrs with intermittent running to new spots and had no problem with a group 27 interstate battery.

I run a group 29, 1198, 999, 360, livewells... fish all day never have a problem.

Thanks Bob, I replaced my deep cell with another slightly more capacity battery! Limited room so same type but more amp hours, 94! Wilmar ever start Maxx with 33% more life! With 1197 and ship to shore radio on it has held at least 12.4V. For very extended periods. Key the mike on my radio and drops to 12.1V? After reading almost 200 pages of my manual, I finally found the spec for the draw for the 1197 on the last page! it only draws 1.3 Amps! Even with the running lights on I now can troll extended length of time and still have enough to start the optimax90! I hope this thread can help others.
Thanks again.
